Hello, I am researching an ancestor who died in custody while in
FLorida during the 1930's.
Is anyone aware of an index for such a search.
Thank you.

There is the Florida Death Index, also if he was incarcerated in
Florida during the enumeration of the 1930 Census, he would be listed
as an inmate in the county in which he/she was imprisoned. You might
be able to find something out thru the FL Dept of Corrections if
confined to a state prison but I would think you would need to know at
minimum date of death, jail/prison incarcerated at and inmate ID
number. Do you have any clue where he/she was imprisoned and for
what?

With so few details it is hard to point you in any direction.

Hi John,

There is a Florida Death index on microfiche. What is the name of
your ancestor? Do you have any idea what year or even what month the
death occurred?

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.

I am still gathering details so I don't have much to go on.
The individual was still in Pennsylvania according to the 1930 census.

Incarceration and death occurred 1930-1940, so I guess the Florida death index would be the best step at this point.

Do you have any tips on searching this online?

Thanks again,

John

Hello,

I have not yet been able to find the date of death.
He left Pennsylvania during or after 1930 and was dead by 1940.
I am trying to fill in the blanks but it is slow going.

Harold E. Bradley, born in Pennsylvania, 1912.

Thank you

John

There is a Harold Bradley that died in 1932 in Martin County. The
volume number is 542 and the certificate number is 7867. You can
order a copy of the Death Certificate from the Florida Dept. of Health
and Vital Statistics for about $5. It may not include the cause of
death. But the rest of the information should be there.

That is the ONLY Harold Bradley that is officially recorded as dying
in Florida in the 1930's.

But the SSDI lists two more (these deaths may not have occurred in the
State):

Harold Bradley 25 Jan 1936 May 1985 No location listed
Harold D. Bradley 29 Mar 1932 2 Aug 2006 Saint Augustine, Saint
Johns, Florida

That should get you started.

Hello,

Thank you for the census information.

Unfortunately, it is not him.

The Harold E. Bradley which I am researching was born in Cambria County, Allegheny Township PA.
He was the son of Mary and Thomas Bradley, born in 1912.
Left PA some time after 1930.

Thanks again.
