Informal family letters indicate that Walter Heath of Tampa Florida in
1977 was the nephew (on his mother's side) of J.(Joseph Jay?) DOWNS.
Apparently Walter's mother was sister to J. Downs, who was my
grandfather on my mother's side. I believe Walter was married to
Lula, and that they had no children. J. Downs is buried in Dixie
Oklahoma cemetery, headstone says b. 1875, d. 1937. I see an obit. in
Tampa Tribune for a Walter Heath in 1985, and the dates would fit for
him to be my mother's cousin. I have MUCH more informal family
history, but am trying not to muddy the waters with information
irrelevant to this Downs search. One bit: in 1977 a family letter
said that Walter had a lot of information about the DOWNS side of the
family, and that he would share it with his cousin O.H. Downs of
Pratt, Kansas. They never got around to that sharing. O.H. has been
dead for several years, and it appears that Walter is too. I believe
that Walter was brother to A.C. HEATH of Paragould, Arkansas (address
in 1977), and I believe there is a cemetery listing for this A.C.
Heath in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Greene County, Arkansas, 1981. I'll
happily share what I have now and what I get in future. Anyone
interested?
