Julia, since you sent your request to the google group you probably have had a hundred replies with all sort of direction and advise.  However, if you have not any replies, you can send me his full name and approximate date of birth and I will do a look up on ancestry.com.  That  is  a web site that has a great deal of information including Florida death and ssa death records.  Since gun shots in the 1980's were not as common as today, there may be a newspaper article.  Google Daytona beach news and see what comes up.  You can write to the paper and see if they have an obit for him.  Once you have enough information and you do not know where he is buried, you can request a copy of his Florida death Certificate from the Department of health: forms are on line -form number dh727. You will be able to access all this by visiting "myflorida.com" and search for department of health.  The death cert will also give you the funeral home and cemetery name.  The funeral home might have a plot number location for his grave at the cemetery.  You can also visit "findagrave.com" and place his name in the search filed to see if he is already documented on the web.  Let me know if I need to clarify anything.  All of this can get confusing.  Kim
