Hello All!
The Florida Freewheelers announce our 30th Anniversary Horrible
Hundred on Sunday, 15 November 2009.
Online registration is open now at
http://www.horrible-hundred.com/hhregister.html
As usual, on the day of the event registration opens at 6:00 AM at
Waterfront Park with juice, coffee, bagels, and pastries provided. The
Century rolls out under police escort at 8:00, the 70-miler rolls out
at 8:15 and the 35-mile "fun" ride leaves at 8:30.
This is where the similarity to "your Grandfather's Horrible Hundred"
ends!
This year for the first time, the Horrible Hundred is a two-day event.
Things kick-off all over Central Florida on Saturday morning, 14
November. Horrible Expo '09 opens at Waterfront Park beginning at 8:00
AM. The Expo will include numerous sponsors, both local and national,
displaying their wares and providing their bikes for demonstration
rides in Sunday's Main Event.
The routes on Sunday have been changed to be safer and yet more
"Horrible". For the first time, we get to climb Northridge Hill on the
way out of town and ride a new loop around Turkey Farm and Grassy Lake
near the end of the ride. As we started last year, we will again have
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and City Police assist cyclists through
major road crossings and left-hand turns. (Note: If you don’t see
police for more than 5 miles, you are probably off course!)
Other things we are doing this year include:
• “Familiarization" rides on Saturday from Waterfront Park led by
local bike clubs and teams
• Demonstration bikes available for rides by major manufacturers and
distributors – Trek, Colnago, Cervelo, Hawk Racing
• Saturday day-prior registration/packet pick-up at both Waterfront
Park and David's World Cycle in Altamonte Springs
• Registration "Happy Hour" at The Cycling Hub in Clermont Saturday
evening
• Choice of commemorative event Polar© water bottles or long-sleeve T
to every rider registered before 1 Nov
• 30th Anniversary Horrible Hundred jersey available for purchase
• Raffle for merchandise and massage giveaways before the ride start
and throughout the day
• Trek bicycle giveaway
• Registered rider list
Once we get back, there will be food and entertainment awaiting you.
If you enjoyed the food and music last year, you won't want to miss
this year's festivities.
These are just the highlights. Check out the details and register at
http://www.Horrible-Hundred.com. We have made registration simpler
this year.
We are still working all the details. I will post updates to this
thread as we finalize arrangements and agreements with sponsors and
vendors. Check the website also to see who has registered to ride.
With over 1500 riders anticipated, we hope to make this Horrible
Hundred an anniversary party to remember.
Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
