Hi folks,

The holidays near, and we have a special treat for you.  The president of the Ikebana International Sarasota Chapter, Gil Lee, will incorporate bamboo in an Ikebana presentation through three arrangements.  We'll start at 10 AM and conclude by 11:30.  The presentation will last about 40 minutes and he'll field questions from the group.  We can also take questions about getting ready for the cold and how to prepare bamboos if time permits.  We welcome presentations from the group for future meetings [hint, hint].

There will be Coffee from Local Coffee & Tea as well as Tea and snacks.   Admission is free and donations are always welcome.  The meeting is at the Great Room By the Bay at Selby Gardens (same place).  Consider bringing or telling a friend.  The more the merrier!

It's always helpful to know if you're coming so I can gauge refreshments, so please try to email me if you plan to come.

Thank you,

-Doug

Bamboo and Ikebana Arrangements for the Holidays

Join Ikebana Master and President of the Ikebana International Sarasota Chapter, Gil Lee, as he demonstrates incorporating bamboo into Japanese floral arranging for the holidays.  Be entertained and educated while learning a new craft and impress your guests at your holiday party!

Pronounced ee-kay-bah-nah.

Not merely flower arranging, ikebana is an art to portray the life of the universe. Brought to Japan by the Buddhist priests in the sixth century as a studied art form, written records exist from the fifteenth century. The designs are based on the structural triad. The tallest line symbolizes heaven, the secondary line is man and the tertiary line is earth. The triad actually reflects the teachings of Confucius: "Heaven, as the soul of all elements of life; man, the fundamental way by which all things become active; and earth, the way in which all things take form. Though it looks simple, Ikebana is not easy, just as life is not easy.
