Sorry about the Spam Pages and files

Google groups allows moderation of messages by new members, which has
helped avoid a lot of offensive spam. What I didn't realize is that
this setting did not prevent the spammers from being able to add
offensive pages and upload files to the group page. Nor have I found a
setting that would.

As result, I've changed the settings so that no new members may join
without first sending an email explaining the person's interest in
joining the group. I'll continue to moderate first messages by new
members to avoid spam messages.

Because the only pages I found created were those by the spammers, I
have changed that setting so that only moderators may create pages.
However, because most of the uploaded files were legit, I left that
privilege open to group members. Another reason I left this as a
member privilege is because it is much quicker and easier to delete
files than it is to delete pages.

I want to thank Bill for bringing this spam to my attention. If anyone
ever notices more spam showing up on the group page, please send me an
email and report the abuse at once!
