Helloguys, need some advice for our Officejet 7612. Around a month ago, one of my colleagues forgot to adjust the feeder to fit the size of paper she was using. This caused a paper jam during printing. She successfully removed the jam but afterwards, the printer kept showing the same error "Printhead is missing, not installed correctly".
We did all the troubleshooting tips and even reseated the printhead. Still shows the same error. I can't believe a simple paperjam would cause so much trouble, never had this issue with all my past personal HP printers. Hopefully you guys have some idea how to fix this or else, will have to order a new printhead.
This worked for me also. Just messed around with the white plastic thing on the back of the printhead until the printhead got stuck on the right side of the carriage, then spun the white plastic thing one notch up and it started working!
These units are not considered field serviceable by HP as the cost of replacement is lower than the dollars and stress of repairing. Above poster is correct, HP produces no service documentation for this product. Your best bet would be to check YouTube to see if someone has made a video on taking it apart. Or just dig in. Keep in mind that most of these units are held together pressure fit tab and slot fittings that when pushed the right way will release and break if pushed the wrong way.
Hello @michaelponto2, thank you for your inquiry which has received very helpful replies from IT Pros in this Community. I regret the problem you are experiencing. The HP Support system does not show an advisory or bulletin for a printhead issue for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7612. I imagine that the printer may be out of warranty. At your convenience, do you mind sending me a PM with the serial number as it may have a carepack? Since this is your first post, welcome to Spiceworks!
Work Done
The first thing to do is to get the carriage tray in the open so that it can move freely along the track, to do this I have to open the cover so that it moves to the cartridge release position. Once here remove the cartridges.
Since this is not a removable print head I have to move the carriage tray manually to the open spot. I have remove the springs with a bird beak pliers and these two screws that holding down the lid.
After that is the tricky part of carefully unplugging these three ribbon cables. There are many ways to approach removing them but be very gentle because if you damage them it will be very hard to get it back into their respective sockets.
Now that it is out, here is where you remove all the screws and unplug the ribbon to the top. The red arrows show the two screws that hold the ink cartridge chip reading mechanism, so be mindful that it will fall out. The yellow arrow is showing the screw that is connected to a nut which is behind the board when you peel it back.
As you can see the contacts are dirty particularly the two in the middle, get a Qtip or tissue and some rubbing alcohol to rub it off. I also used my screw driver to gently scrape off any resistant corrosion (Do not be rough, just get it clean enough without damaging the copper).
Now all is left is to seal the board in place and screw it back up, the hardest parts is getting the ribbon cables back into their sockets without bending them. Its a very tight space to work with, the other part that was a bit tricky is getting the springs to hook. Be careful there as well since you will have to put a bit of strength into it because of the tension on the spring (Protip fasten the cover back in place, screw down the cover then put springs over the hooks).
The print head was put in and no sign of the error, only thing it had to do was re-prime the head since the printer was improperly shut down due to me unplugging it while it was in use. I did a test print and because it was down for a while the quality of print was a bit off but now is all operational.

Having trouble scanning A3 documents with our new HP Officejet 7612. The interface on the scanner itself does not seem to have an option to change scan size to A3, and the printer doesnt seem to auto detect paper size; as I've tried to scan an A3 page and it appears on my computer in A4 size.
Based on your description, I suspect you would need to choose 'none' for cropping, or full glass for scan size. Although the software may not be able to auto-crop your scan to A3, you could do this manually after the scan is completed. Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance. Thanks.
When scanning which ever profile I select, as soon as I select source as the flatbed, this printer does not allow A3 in the adf, the option of selecting paper size is greyed out, it doesnt allow you to select a paper size yet only scans an A4 area?
I unistalled everything on my PC and reinstalled the latest software suite. This time as well as connecting the printer by IP I also pointed the software there as well and bingo a lot more functionality appears.
Still strange that the HP Scan could remotely operate the scanner on my PC but only at A4 or below. Anyway the full software can do A3 and all of the other features i required such as editable text, pdf etc.
Ladies and Gents I know I am a little late to the party. We only recently bought this printer, and had exactly the same issues as you. When scanning to computer and to PDF the A3 page came out as A4 thus cutting part of the document off.
We had a search around the forum, found nothing works. But by accident we found that if you click the HP Oficejet 7612 assistant then click the "Scan a document or Photo" set the "Save as PDF" to A3 or entire scan area, The document scans in full size. Strange that there isn't any setting on the printer but there it is.
Been having a great run with my Officejet 7612 until I got the following error "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected or incorrectly installed" out of the blue. There is a "show me" function but that does not load through and the trouble shooting pages on the HP site help insofar as to confirm that I have a problem... but no solutions. Normal checks and procedures such as Turn on and off, and checking for obstructions, etc have not worked.
Thank you for reaching out to the Hp support forums.A good day to you. I have reviewed the case and will be happy to assist you here. I also see that you've visited us for the first time. Great presentation of the issue and excellent troubleshooting was done as well. Kudos to you for that.
Now check if the issue gets resolved. If it continues, then the printer's hardware is faulty and it needs to be replaced. I am being honest about it here by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
4. I can run the printer through its cleaning routine via the selection menue and it prints the test pages no problem, but I still have error messages. However, not sure if you mean I should 'manually' clean the ink catridges. Could you please send me more info how to. If it is the same as cleaning the printer head then I don't know whether I should go there... YouTube videos make it look messy and I don't want to go there as I can print test pages fine (see below).
What is really strange is that I can sometimes get the printer after a switch on/off to print one or two documents, before it then freaks out with the error code. This, and the ability to print status reports and test pages, tells me that the printer is working just fine. Frustrating that there is just a glitch somewhere. Be good if I could confirm I have done the reset correctly.
I would just like to say I also own an HP OfficeJet 7612 printer and the same thing happened to me, Printhead missing or not detected" errorr. Funny thing I had just sucessfully printed a good test page after installing my printer to my newer HP Notebook and wireless router setup. Funny too after that went to HP Support Assistant and downloaded and it installed the recommened updates for my printer. What ever downloaded and installed from HP Suport Assistant had to be the reason my printer got this Printhead missing or not detected" errorr. I know what you are thinking no this could not be but believe me I have read things on about HP. There are other alternatives and I will find them if it takes a computer technican go go into my registry and find the HP download culprit that caused this to happen and me to totally corrupt my printer to the point I can no longer use it. I have some good tech's that will find it I am hoping.
I did everything possible per HP instructions and even on the HP communtiy to correct this all of a sudden out of the blue even just after I sucessfullly printed test pages, this Printhead missing or not detected" error on my HP OfficeJet 7612 printer. Very odd to me after using the HP Support Assistant that recommended updates for my this printer and I allowed the install of the updates is when just after the installation wanting to print a photo that out of the blue and true blue, I got the error and now I cannot even use my printer. Sounds fishy doesn't it. Some may say no way HP would not...could not but I don't put it past MS so why not HP>
