I'm curious how the new version compares to the old. I've always had to do multiple takes with cross-fades to account for glitches and occasional silent segments, and didn't like having to change project sample rate then resample off-line and drag back to the DAW project, so probably the SWAM version will be easier to work with in that regard. But I don't know what to expect feature-wise as I have grown accustomed to the level of control Kontakt scripting gives us.

Yeah I saw this. They want a pretty good chuck of change out me for the upgrade as I own all the saxes. Great stuff. The soprano has always been SWAM. I'm sure I'll upgrade at some point. I'll have to read through the advantages.

One thing I don't like is being tied to yet another proprietary engine. Apple does some update I have to wait for all these vendors to update their stuff, OR someone like SampleModeling goes out of business and I'm stuck with a proprietary engine that will never get updated. So a Kontakt version is safer/simpler, IMO.

I initially balked at the cost, but the proof will be in the pudding. Can't listen to demos at work; maybe later tonight. It's a lot of work at their end, just as the violin and cello (once released) won't necessarily be cheap for those who bought the earlier Garritan versions (though I think the strings and brass will remain Kontakt based?).

The developers expressed their frustration at the rate of growth of Kontakt features vs. their needs, and as modeling vs. sampling is a big part of it, I can see why a dedicated engine is needed -- especially for the higher pitched instruments, where with Kontakt they would have to go to 192 kHz sample rate or higher!

My latest engine is the one called "Engine" from Best Service (based on Yellow Tools). I waited a long time but am glad I bought the four libraries from Eduardo Tarilonte along with the specialty Chinese Opera Percussion library, as they are now some of my most-used libraries. Very expressive and detailed and oriented towards the way the actual instruments are played vs. keyboard-oriented. Yet I haven't gotten past all the quirks yet in terms of how to defeat some undesired default settings.

Mark, I think Jamie wanted to remind us that there is this box that surrounds keyboard players and things inside the box are cool to play, but those outside should never be played by any self respecting keyboardist. Obviously, pianos, EPs, organs and synths are inside the box. Outside are emulations like guitars, violins, trumpets and of course SAXOPHONES. Where it gets tricky is that playing strings, brass and even saxophones on a Mellotron is cool, inside the box, but using new technology to do those same emulations is decidedly not.

Hello, i Don`t own any Swam Apps yet. what do you think. It is possible to build some Tower of powerish Horn sections with these Apps? So if iI buy 2 Trumpets, a Sax and a Trombone each having their own Midi Tracks in Auria ? Does anyone have Experience Trying this?

If you are not averse to writing musical notation then StaffPad also comes with SATB saxophones as well as a variety of brass instruments. You will not get the same expression as the SWAM instruments but if you were not intending on performing the parts and were just going to manually sequence them then do consider StaffPad.

In my limited attempts to do horn arrangements with SWAM, the limiting factor has been my arrangement and willingness to spend some time practicing proper horn articulation. I think you could get a very credible horn section with a couple instance of the same SWAM trumpet with slightly different settings, a SWAM tenor trombone or two and the GeoSWAM Tenor sax. I think the sax needs the most work in terms of getting the articulations down.

and try your ideas of MIDI. I think short notes will get you close to the rapid fire Tower of Power sound and then automate the volumes on the long notes with hard attacks and swells
through the held phase.

and wait for the SWAM sax... by then you'll have mastered the SWAM user interface and should get an intro price for the alto or tenor and the distinctive Tower of Power Baritone Sax... I'd start with the baritone and see how high they let you go into the tenor range or
even the alto.

For Tower of Power you need Bb Trumpet, Tenor Trombone, and Baritone Sax for those
honking low notes. Adding a tenor sax is nice for rock solo's like you hear every week on Saturday Night Live. It's the horn for rock and roll when there's a nice growl.

You'd be wasting your money. The tone difference is so slight you won't notice the difference in my opinion. Better to get some think much bigger (Tuba) or smaller (Piccolo Trumpet) and hear a unique tone.

Although I'm not as ambitious as trying to recreate ToP horn arrangements, I do aspire to have a good horn section. I started with the standalone SWAM Trumpet. There is a definite learning curve in getting realistic horn lines out of it, but once you get there it's nice. As an experiment, I used Polythemus (?) to divide up my keyboard chords and send them to different SWAM trumpet instances. It worked well. Looking forward to sax, etc.

The C Trumpet and the C Melody Sax exist so the musician can read off the piano
music and not have to transpose to to compensate for the Bb or Eb fundamental
which is either up a whole step or down a minor 3rd respectively. Very few of them
were made and sold but they are out there. If my dad ever saw one in a pawn shop he'd own
one or more but they never show up.

Now updated to V3! This collection is comprised of the four instruments of the standard saxophone quartet: the Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones. SWAM-W technology guarantees the same natural reactions as real instruments. With SWAM instruments you can compose and arrange your jazz, orchestral pieces, or concertos utilizing powerful instruments with natural, fluid expression.

Ultra-realistic and expressive virtual saxophones - Developed by Audio Modeling using the SWAM Technology, SWAM Saxophones is the result of innovative performance techniques, concepts of physical and behavioral modeling along with the multi-vector/phase-synchronous sampling technique. The SWAM Saxophones collection is the most realistic, real-time controllable, expressive set of virtual saxophones on the market, and only need a large hard drive to create the perfect organic consistency of a real saxophone. This is due to the endless expressive parameters that are unique of every live performance.

SWAM Engine digitally handcrafted acoustic instruments are never a simple recording of notes via sample libraries, but rather a set of real virtual instruments based on their traditional counterparts, and they allow you to control the expression of a virtual acoustic instrument: while a sample library repeats a pre-recorded sound, SWAM instruments create sound in real-time, offering the most realistic and expressive saxophone sound without a massive library of samples.

Control the expression of your virtual acoustic instruments, break the limitations of traditional samplers and benefit from the perfect organic consistency resulting from the endless expressive parameters that are unique of every live performance. No Giga-sized pre-recorded libraries are required, but only the smallest footprint.

Choose SWAM Saxophones for composing, producing or performing any musical genre by layering it in a sections with no artifacts and simply selecting different timbres for each instance. From Jazz to Classical, from Country to Pop Music, just adjust any sound and behavioral parameter to get the exact response you want.
