Tuesday evening I pulled up to my house on south College, a little after 8:00PM.I saw a white guy, about 190lbs., backing his truck in my driveway. I spotted and a second man at the back of my house opening the gate. He was a black man and much smaller in size. When I asked the guy parking the truck what was going on, he stated they were "working on the house" and pointed at the property sign in the front yard. I told him I was the home owner and asked what the guy was doing out back. He responded with "what guy". I said I just saw a guy opening the gate. He then said "there is nobody back there", I said I just saw a guy open the gate. He then angrily replied that "I didn't see anyone, and there was nobody back there". That's when I parked my car blocking his truck in the
driveway. I headed straight to my front door, and for some reason I didn’t even think to look at the tag on the truck. As I got inside, he had started the truck and drove across the front yard and off the curb as he sped away. The truck is a dark, possibly maroon or black four door Dodge pickup with a large, green Monster Energy drink logo on the back.
Fortunately, I don’t think they got away with anything important. They had already cased the garage and loaded everything they intended to steal onto my trailer. Had I been a minute or two later I would have lost a heavy amount of tools and personal effects.
Contributing factors: Having been a home owner in Florence Park since 1990, I didn’t give a second thought to my garage door being open, I had dismissed any possibility to being robbed due to the fact my chain-link gates were closed. I was mistaken. Also, I think the newer home owners are putting up six foot privacy fences in place of the chain-link fence only provided cover for the criminals from my neighbor’s eyes. (My neighbors, most of whom I don’t even know because I never see them out in their back yards, only out front as they drive
away.)
