I obey the law. I honestly do. No speeding tickets. Pay my bills on
time. When it comes to church, though, something supercedes the law. I
know the "law of God" but I don't pray for fear of what might happen
if I don't. I don't contribute money because if I don't I will be
scolded. I do good, because it is good to do good.

Sometimes when we look at Christian teachings (the laws of Moses, for
example) we think that is all we have to do. But it is not. Like I
said last Sunday, something has to happen in our hearts to cause us to
live a faithful life.

In Galatians 3:26ff, Paul says that we are all sons (children??) of
God through faith in Jesus Christ. If we have been baptized into
Christ, we have clothed ourselves with Christ. If we belong to Christ,
then, we are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.

1. What is the promise?
2. What about people who do good things, live faithful lives, and are
not baptized?
3. Is there anytime that actions of faith overrule "the law"

I agree with the earlier analysis submitted, but would state it differently - Christ did come to "fulfill" the law, but I guess I look on that as a "replacement" or "overruling" of the law.  Christ IS the law.  Everything else is just humanity's insufficient attempt to reach what Christ fulfilled.

I struggle with the concept that not all good people go to heaven (or "good" non-Christians don't go to heaven).  I accept the concepts of heaven and hell, but have trouble fitting into my personal perspective of a compassionate and fatherly God the vision of Him rejecting His children just because His children don't accept Him.  As a parent, I would love and accept my children no matter what (I hope, so, anyway), and I envision that God would have similar feelings for His children.  I know what we are taught about heaven and hell; I just have a hard time with it when we are talking about "good" people that are not Christians.

It is spelled out very clearly in the NT that no matter how good a person is unless they accept Jesus as their personal savior they cannot see heaven. Let us work on getting the  good people into heaven the only way.
