Dr Fred Knelman is a pioneer in developing a coherent, comprehensive and
interdisciplinary analysis of the global problematique and the search for
social equity and environmental soundness. " Every Life is a Story", his
new book, is the culmination of a life-time of reflective and active
dedication, examining the dynamics of globalization and the issues of
peace, social justice and ecology. He has capped an incisive critique of
the emerging new world order with a daring vision of a truly socially
equitable and environmentally sound society. This book could well become a
rallying point for people all over the world concerned with global issues."
Dr. Joan Russow, Global Compliance Research Project.

BRIEF BOOK DESCRIPTION

The theme of globalization and the nature of global change provide the
context of the book's analysis. Knelman first deals with the nature of
science and the behaviour of scientists, using the decision to drop the
atom bomb on Hiroshima in 1945 and its lasting legacy, as a case study. He
then turns to an analysis of nuclear power, military and civil, and the
fatal link between them. A history of environmental thought precedes a
shift to the global stage -the phenomenon of global change and the
challenge of global governance. The last chapter describes a model of
social and environmental sustainablility

It should be noted that this book is both a personal and intellectual
history enriched by stories from the author's life which are integrated
with the major themes of justice, peace and environment. To a considerable
degree the social history of these issues is also the personal and
intellectual history of the author. In this way he is able to provide a
participant's perspective of these issues. The reviewers have been
overwhelmingly enthusiastic:

" An astute analysis coupled with profound understanding. Designed to
provoke both conscience and intellect." Roger Dittmann, Coordinator, United
States Federation of Scholars and Scientists.

"For everyone concerned with creating a better future; should be taught in
every college, university and high-school; Global Survival 101" David
Krieger, president, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation.

"A most definitive work destined to be the anti-nuclear classic of all time
- a wake-up gift to humanity" Ben Weintraub, United Nations Representative,
Veterans Against Nuclear Arms.

"Especially welcome is his [Knelman's] plain, blunt language and especially
enlightening his presentation of the material in a historical perspective."
Anatol Rapoport, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Toronto

"With his life-time commitment to the cause of peace, justice and ecology,
Knelman's intellectual biography is a brilliant and provocative book
permeated with knowledge, hope and inspiration" Shreesh Juyal, Director,
Institute for United Nations and International Affairs, and Professor of
Political Science, University of Regina.
