Mr. Stoddard,

How many lanes will there be?
Will there be a bicycle lane along this busy road?

Thanks,

Notice of Study Commencement and Open House #1

Cadence Gate / Cope Road to Hope Side Road
Environmental Assessment Study

The City of Ottawa has initiated an Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for the
proposed widening of Eagleson Road from Cadence Gate to Hope Side Road. This
project is being undertaken to determine the appropriate modifications required to
meet both existing and future transportation needs along the Eagleson Road corridor.

The project is being planned as a Schedule 'C' project under the Municipal Class
Environmental Assessment (2000) document. The EA Study will confirm project need
and justification, document existing environmental conditions, examine alternatives
and potential impacts, and recommend mitigation measures.

There is an opportunity at any time during the EA process for interested persons to
provide comments. Any comments received pertaining to the study will be collected
under the Environmental Assessment Act and, with the exception of personal
information, will become part of the public record.

The purpose of the first open house is to present and obtain public input on the
following:

* Study purpose
* Existing conditions
* Study design/process
* Schedule

I went.

No mention of bike lanes although this is just the justification phase.

The only mention of cycling was how to get pedestrian/cyclist across
Eagleson from the recreational paths.

In May they will have the options phase information session.
May see bike facility options here.

In September they will have the recommended option information session.
Definitely will see facilities for bikes whether shared lane or bike lane.

I haven't looked into any of this, nor do I quite know what the
"justification phase" means, but I am curious if this is identified as
a "future cycling route" on any of the cycling network plans.

*IF* it is, then in my opinion:
(a) bike lanes should be included, or else they likely won't be added
until the next time the road is rebuilt (possibly 10-20 years, or
never!)

(b) developing a planned portion of the cycling network should be
included as a "justification" to support this development
(justification by its proponents, and not necessarily by CfSC)
