By around 20:00, half an hour after the doors opened to the public, it
was packed on both floors. There was a mixture of people from Ottawa from
a variety of different sectors, as well as people from all over the world
that will be attending "The Internet and the Law - A Global Conversation"
conference being held today and tomorrow.

I saw technical/policy people I know from GOSLINGcommunity.org and Linux
Users Groups, many lawyers and academics I know from copyright reform
circles, and a few people from FLORA.org that I have not seen in a long
time. I also had a conversation with a few journalists, some I had met
before like Jeff Leiper from Decima.ca (Canadian New Media, etc), and some
I had not (Journalist from P2Pnet.net ). Many people were there from both
Industry Canada and Heritage Canada (copyright policy branch), which was a
great sign as well!

I had invited the staff of many MPs, and 3 people did say they would try
to attend. Jamie Burgess from Bill Blaikie's office and Claire Aplevich
from David McGuinty's office I would have recognized from past meetings,
but I found things so packed I never caught up with them. In the case of
Grey Picco from Heritage Minister Liza Frulla's office I never met him
before, but will hopefully have a chance soon.

I had a great time, and it seemed like everyone else did as well!

(Now over to the conference...
