In those olden times, people used the St. Johns River to get to Lake
Co. There were several thriving towns on the eastern side of Lake
Co. Post offices were present in these places and times.
Many of these towns perished in fires and were not rebuilt. In some
areas people are still finding old pots and pans buried as well as
indian heads
ACRON - Established Sept. 14, 1877, discontinued Sept 12, 1890. Town
in eastern Lake County near Sorrento. ( or Acorn)
ARTHUR - In operation 1891-92. Name changed to Brocton on May 28,
1892, and discontinued Feb. 25, 1893, with mail being handled by
Paisley Post Office.

CASSIA - Established March 10, 1884.
CROW'S BLUFF - Established April 26, 1858, as Hawkinsville,
discontinued Feb. 2, 1869. Reestablished Sept. 23, 1872. Name changed
to Crow's Bluff March 23, 1888, discontinued May 31, 1913, with mail
being handled Beresford (across the St. John's River in Volusia
County).
HAWKINSVILLE - (See Crow's Bluff)
INDIAN SPRINGS - Established July 3, 1883. Discontinued July 23, 1892,
with mail taken over by Sorrento Post Office.
KISMIT - Established Sept. 22, 1884, discontinued Aug. 20, 1890, with
mail being handled by Altoona Post Office.
MESSINA - Established Sept. 25, 1885. Discontinued May 15, 1918, with
Eustis Post Office taking over service.

MOODY - Established Jan. 29, 1884, discontinued Aug. 25, 1889, with
service taken over by Sorrento Post Office.
MOUNT PLYMOUTH - Established May 25, 1927, discontinued April 30,
1937, with service taken over by Sorrento Post Office.
PAISLEY - Established July 31, 1886.
PITTMAN - Established March 17, 1884, discontinued Jan. 31, 1901,
reestablished Sept. 15, 1904, discontinued Nov. 30, 1925, with service
taken over by Altoona Post Office.
PONCEANNAH - Established Aug. 20, 1877, discontinued March 4, 1887,
with Altoona Post Office taking over service.
SENECA - Established Oct. 29, 1883, discontinued April 15, 1907, with
service taken over by Messina Post Office.
SORRENTO - Established Sept. 10, 1878.
SUNSET HILL - Established Sept. 28, 1892, discontinued March 30, 1895,
with service taken over by Mount Dora Post Office.
