Why does PowerMax require a separate server to manage it? Why do you have to have a server running Unisphere to access the array? You don't need this for Unity, XtremeIO, NetApp, Pure. It just seems like it makes it ore complicated than it needs to be. Not that I didn't think that about PowerMax already.
EMC Unisphere is a web based management GUI for managing EMC VNX family and actually, this is Java web application that hosting by a Windows. Sometimes, the management server shows incorrect status for disks, RAID Groups or LUNs. As an example, there is no faulty disks on array enclosures but LUN health status is marked as faulted. Restarting Unisphere management server is one of solution for resolving such that issue.
We have an EMC VNX 5300 and the certificate has expired. I have already researched the instructions for viewing the certificate and regenerating a new one. The steps require accessing the Control Station CLI through the service port on one of the SPs using a specific IP address (128.221.1.250). I have connected with my laptop and am able to use Putty to SSH to the device. I'm prompted for username and try the only account we have "sysadmin", but I get Access Denied. I also notice it states "SSH server : Windows Authentication" which leads me to believe it's wanting a domain account but we don't have that setup on the storage (to my knowledge).
I have been trying to access unisphere through the browser ie11/mozilla/chrome but no success. After going past the java permission and the EMC logo display, all i get is a blue screen with no response.
It's your version of Java. I had a similar problem when I got my computer upgraded at work- I needed to install a different version of Java to make things work. Currently, I have 1.7.0_11 installed with the latest VNX firmware and I can get into unisphere.
In this mode, the CSI PowerMax ReverseProxy acts as a passthrough for the RESTAPI calls and only provides limited functionalitysuch as rate limiting, backup Unisphere server. The CSI PowerMax driver is still responsible for the authentication with the Unisphere server.
This is the most advanced configuration which provides you with the capability to connect to Multiple Unisphere servers.You can specify primary and backup Unisphere servers for each storage array. If you have different credentials for your Unisphere servers, you can also specify different credential secrets.
Creating CIFS share requires that the time on the Data Mover is in sync withthe Active Directory domain so that the CIFS server can join the domain.Otherwise, the domain join will fail when creating share with this securityservice. There is a limitation that the time of the domains used bysecurity-services even for different tenants and different share networksshould be in sync. Time difference should be less than 10 minutes.
emc_interface_ports is comma separated list specifying the ports(devices) ofData Mover that can be used for share server interface.Members of the list can be Unix-style glob expressions (supports Unix shell-stylewildcards). This list is optional. In the absence of this option, any of the portson the Data Mover can be used.
The time on Data Mover and the Active Directory domains used in securityservices should be in sync (time difference should be less than 10 minutes).It is recommended to use same NTP server on both the Data Mover and ActiveDirectory domains.
VNX has limitations on the overall numbers of Virtual Data Movers,filesystems, shares, checkpoints, and etc. Virtual Data Mover(VDM) is createdby the VNX driver on the VNX to serve as the manila share server. Similarly,filesystem is created, mounted, and exported from the VDM over CIFS or NFSprotocol to serve as the manila share. The VNX checkpoint serves as themanila share snapshot. Refer to the NAS Support Matrix document on [EMCsupport site]( ) for the limitations and configure thequotas accordingly.

See above in bold that only the first NTP server appears in the output, I also tried to stop and start the NTP service, I logged as root and executed the /sbin/service ntpd [stop/start], but the system still reported one NTP server and I still had my warning message.
To monitor an immediate warm restart of server_2:
server_cpu server_2 -reboot -monitor now
A warm reboot or a software reset performs a partial shutdown of the Data Mover, and skips the POST after restarting. A software reset is faster than the hardware reset.
