Hi,

I'm using a PureThermal 1 with a lepton 2.5.
The sensor work fine for about 1 minutes and then the shutter close and stay in the closed position. I need to reset the sensor to open the shutter.
Does someone have the same problem ? Is it possible to ask the sensor to open the shutter ?

Thanks for your help.

Guillaume

I suspect that my sensor is defective. So, I plan to buy a new one.
I used before the lepton 2.5 by now there is the lepton 3.0.

Do you advise me to buy the 3.0 instead of the 2.5 ?

I also have problems with the shutter on a 2.5:

I have two Lepton 2.5's running next to each other. Both of them sometimes close the shutter for a long time, where they should be streaming data to a python program. When inspecting the shutter closely, it seemed that it was not completely closed, but rather 90%... Not sure though.

Can the shutter get stuck? It seems very likely as the mechanics seems very delicate. However, I am puzzled by the fact that after some time, it seemed as if it was working fine.

Do anybody have similar experience?

My current solution is to go back to the Lepton 2.0 without shutter, but I am affraid that all new versions of the Lepton will be with shutter.

Has your code crashed? I had a similar problem to this which I eventually tracked down to a bug in my code.

No, the code was running fine. I was streaming images, but the temperature map was isothermal because of the shutter . I am using the pureEngineering breakout and GitHub/groupgets/pyLepton library.

Could it be in need of a firmware upgrade? And how do I do that anyway?

I would suspect corrosion of some sort. Perhaps some humidity got in there.
You can actually pull the whole shutter assembly off and put a new one on if you do it carefully. Getting a new assembly will be the tricky part.

A simple thing to verify is power. The shutter is a solenoid, and it consumes 235-310mA during FFC (where the shutter closed). Maybe this is a bit much for your supply and the voltage is dropping?

You may very well have a point. I have 2A available for a RPi3B and the PureEng+Lepton. That should be plenty. However, I am doing some image analysis on the streamed images so processor is running at >25%. Further, when I discovered the problem, I was streaming images over wifi. In all, I could be approaching the 2A max. Haven't been able to google an estimate on power consumption but will try and measure.
Thanks for the lead!

Thanks for your input! I am not sure I will be getting into changing the shutter even if i had a spare. Too many thumbs on my hands.
I should add that the cameras are installed in a rather dusty environment. They are facing down so should be less effected, but dust corrosion could be an issue. The reason that I am doubtful that this is the issue is that the problem seems to be non-periodic!?
