Hello,

We are seeking for help setup lepton (500-0643-0) + breakout board v1.4 + Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. Lepton and breakout board were purchased two weeks ago for our school project.

We tried different settings and softwares: LeptonModule(raspberry_video & raspberry_capture) & pylepton(pylepton_capture) ; Raspian stretch & raspian Jessie; CE0 & CE1. None of the combinations is working.

The voltage of all pins are static as follows when running video or capture programs:
SCL 2.86V
SDA 2.86V
MISO 0V
MOSI 0V
SCLK 0V
CS0 3V
CS1 3V
The total current drawn is  45mA with external 5V power supply, which is less than minimum current draw of the thermal camera( 76+12 = 88 mA) based on the datasheet (Table 9. DC & Logic Levels).

We also tested the voltage of capacitors on the breakout board v1.4, their values are coorect and match with the semantic of breakout board v1.3.
VCC12 = 1.2V - 1.19V
VCC28_IO = 2.82V
VCC28 = 2.80V
VIN = 4.99V

The programs executed either hangs or giving red square. When running pylepton_capture, program is trapped in the case "if retry_reset and (self.__capture_buf[20, 0] & 0xFF0F) != 0x1400 : " in Lepton.py, the buffer is not receving any data from the lepton module.

We do not smell anything while setting up wirings.... and the imager is firmly attached to the breakout board too.

Other than a burnt imager, what could the issue be?

Thanks for the help!

Possibilities:

1. Your power supply feeding the RPi is inadequate.  Recommend it be at least 2.5 amps at 5V.

2. The USB cable may be only spec'ed at 0.5 amp, which is the USB standard.

3. I suggest an error somewhere in the chain that led you to read the RPi 3 only drawing less than half an amp.

Hanging and the red square are classic signs the RPi is not getting enough power.

Hope this helps,

David

Thanks David
Ya, I used a switching power supply of 5V @ 5A.

Additionally,

I also tested pull-up for CS0 pin, short CS to reset the module & short MISO while testing the raspberry_video.

And the cable?

If the cable can carry the amperage, I'd guess a connector or a bad RPi
(but that would be unusual.)

Ya, maybe I will test RPi's SPI & I2C.
I rewired with shorter wires in the past and it still does not work.

Not necessarily shorter, but definitely thicker.

It is solved. After contacting the Tech Support, we tested with RPI1 and it worked.......

It does not support RPI 3 Model B.
