FRA has strategically invested in 5 mega-regions (Seattle-Portland, San Francisco-Los Angeles, Charlotte-Raleigh-DC, Midwest hub, and Northeast Corridor) that hold some 65 percent of our population and that stand to absorb the bulk of future population growth. The Department of Transportation is working with states to plan and develop high-speed and intercity passenger rail corridors that range from upgrades to existing services to entirely new rail lines exclusively devoted to 150 to 220 mph trains.

High Speed, 3.4 MHz, Mode
High speed mode is entered by:
1) Start condition
2) Chip Address: 0000 1XXX (X = don't care)
3) Wait a clock for the acknowledge
4) Now everything is in HS mode... do a repeated start (do NOT do a "stop" then a "start" because a "stop" kicks the parts out of HS mode)
5) Send read and or writes in HS mode. (remember to use "repeated starts" between commands.)
6) When you are done with the last command send a "stop" condition to put the part back into regular 400k mode.

Also, can someone explain to me how HS mode is different in terms of functionality? I'm assuming that there are various hardware changes that allow both master and slave to run at that very high frequency without messing up, but what are they?

It is master job to clock the bus properly. Faster mode obviously allow bus to be loaded with more data. I doubt there is some special hardware for different speed modes. Peripheral is either capable of high speed or not.

So I can run high speed mode at less/significantly less than 3.4MHz? Because I can't seem to get my MSP430F2012 to a frequency that high. And let's say I was able to get a frequency as high as 399 kHz. Should I just stay in fast mode, because it the frequency I am at still supports it and there would be no reason to go into high speed mode in that case?

States and territories across the nation have Signed On to the Internet For All Initiative and committed to connecting their communities to reliable high-speed Internet for less through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment and State Digital Equity Planning Grant Programs. These programs will provide more than $48 billion for infrastructure deployment, skills training and access to technologies essential for Americans to connect with their communities, their democracy, and one another.

President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides $65 billion in funding to expand high-speed Internet access. These grant programs aim to make high-speed Internet affordable for all. They fund planning, infrastructure, and adoption efforts that promote digital equity and inclusion. Our goal is for everyone to have the access and skills they need to get connected.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how important universal access to high-speed, reliable broadband and a connected device is for work, education, healthcare, and civic participation. Access to high-quality broadband should no longer be considered a luxury. Essential government services, educational and economic opportunities, business services, telemedicine, public safety, and staying connected with family and friends are all increasingly reliant on broadband networks. While many Nevadans are unable to access the Internet due to lack of connectivity infrastructure, others are unable to access the Internet because they cannot afford it or do not have a computer or laptop. We cannot afford to leave any community, rural or urban, behind as we work to close the digital divide.

The objective of the High Speed Nevada (HSNV) Initiative is universal access to modern broadband infrastructure that provides all Nevadans at their home or business access to an affordable, reliable, and scalable high-speed internet connection. While the federal government has allocated significant funds for broadband, needs in Nevada are also significant due to our geography, rough terrain, the remoteness of our population centers, and the lack of modern broadband infrastructure. The High Speed NV Initiative will combine federal, State, local, and private funding to begin to close the digital divide in Nevada and bring 21st Century infrastructure to every part of the state. The State will use available funds to invest in long-term, life-changing infrastructure assets that will benefit Nevadans in their homes, schools, and places of business for years to come.

Each year UIC produces an atlas providing an overview of high-speed lines in the world: those in commercial operation, under construction, currently under development, and planned in the medium or long term. The UIC High-Speed Rail Atlas is a unique document that provides very detailed information about all high-speed lines around the world, supplied and reviewed by UIC members.

High-speed trains are developing at a rapid pace. The pandemic did not stop the expansion of the high-speed rail network, as the length of operational lines increased by more than 40% between 2020 and 2022, going from 44,000 km to around 59,000 km. Additionally, the number of countries using high-speed trains is on the rise with the development of further projects, which is demonstrated by construction work across the world, in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, and in the Middle East.

Background: ReConnect Program
To be eligible for ReConnect Program funding, an applicant must serve an area where high-speed internet service speeds are lower than 100 megabits per second (Mbps) (download) and 20 Mbps (upload). The applicant must also commit to building facilities capable of providing high-speed internet service at speeds of 100 Mbps (download and upload) to every location in its proposed service area.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides $65 billion to ensure every American has access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet through a historic investment in broadband infrastructure deployment. The legislation also lowers costs for internet service and helps close the digital divide, so that more Americans can make full use of internet access.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas. Fast, reliable internet service has become essential for everything from getting news to finding a job. But 24% of rural adults say access to high-speed internet is a major problem in their local community, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted earlier this year. An additional 34% of rural residents see this as a minor problem, meaning that roughly six-in-ten rural Americans (58%) believe access to high speed internet is a problem in their area.

By contrast, smaller shares of Americans who live in urban areas (13%) or the suburbs (9%) view access to high-speed internet service as a major problem in their area. And a majority of both urban and suburban residents report that this is not an issue in their local community, according to the survey, conducted Feb. 26-March 11. (The survey categorized Americans as urban, suburban or rural based on their own description of their community type.)

There are, however, some differences by age and by race and ethnicity. Rural adults ages 50 to 64 are more likely than those in other groups to see access to high-speed internet as a problem where they live. Nonwhites who live in a rural area are more likely than their white counterparts to say this is a major problem (31% vs. 21%). (Racial and ethnic differences are also present across a number of other perceived problems for communities, ranging from traffic to crime.)

For years, policymakers and advocates have looked to address broadband-related gaps between rural and non-rural communities in subscriptions, infrastructure, performance and competition. Data from the Federal Communications Commission show that rural areas are less likely to be wired for broadband services and tend to have slower internet speeds compared with other areas of the country. There are also fewer broadband providers operating in rural areas, which means consumers tend to have limited options when subscribing to high-speed services.

And while the broadband gap between rural and non-rural Americans has narrowed over time, rural adults remain less likely to have a high-speed internet connection at home. Seven-in-ten suburban residents and two-thirds of urban dwellers say they subscribe to broadband services at home, compared with 58% of rural adults, according to a separate Pew Research Center survey conducted in January.

Fast charging is growing within cities as many EV drivers do not have their own parking spaces and places to charge. Chargers often tend to be placed along highways and considered resources to facilitate long-distance road trips. However, they can also serve as an alternative to slower Level 2 charging or for drivers who do not have reliable access to charging.
