Choose this option to share items with lots of people you might not even know personally. For example, you can use these links to post to Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, or share in an email or message. Anyone who gets the link can view or edit the item, depending on the permission you set. Users with the link cannot upload new items. If the sharing link points to a folder, you may be required to sign in with a Microsoft account. Don't have one?
People with existing access can be used by people who already have access to the document or folder. It does not change any permissions. Use this if you just want to send a link to somebody who already has access.
Specific people gives access only to the people you specify, although other people may already have access. If people forward the sharing invitation, only people who already have access to the item will be able to use the link.
Allow editing lets people who are signed in with a Microsoft Account edit the files or folders they have access to. If you're sharing a folder, people with Edit permissions can copy, move, edit, rename, share, and delete anything in the folder they have access to. Unchecking this box means that people can view, copy, or download your items without signing in. They can also forward the link to other people. However, they cannot make changes to the version on your OneDrive.
Set expiration date lets you set a date for the link to expire. After the date you set, the link won't work anymore and you will need to create a new link for users requiring access to your file or folder.
Set password letsyou set a password to access the file. When a user clicks the link, they will be prompted to enter a password before they can access the file. You'll need to provide this password separately to anyone you want to share the file with.
You can also set editing permissions on the previous screen. Under Send link, next to the Name, group or email field, select the pencil icon to change the editing permissions for the people or groups you have entered.
That's because PDF's are opening directly in your browser from the location via a plugin. If using chrome you can use this method to cause them to download, but it's a browser thing, not a download / server thing, you're actually downloading it, it's just your browser picking it up, so you can either click the download link they provide in the plugin but that's the only way to get pdf's to download outside of zipping them etc.

The problem that people encounter is trying to download a file in the compressed folder and that's when an error occurs. I tried many ways to create direct links from Onedrive like using the embed code but it doesn't work.

We've all come across that unwanted web page that opens when you click a Google Drive file link. Luckily, with a workaround, you can make a direct download link for your files and bypass that web page. We'll show you how.
This workaround uses your shared file's ID in a custom link to enable direct download for your file. You can use this method on all your devices, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad, and Android.
And that's the direct download link for your selected Google Drive file. Click the link or paste it into your browser, and instead of displaying a web page, it will immediately start the file download. Very handy!
Google Drive includes a built-in web viewer so people can view your shared files - from Microsoft Office documents to videos to AutoCAD drawings - directly in their browser. You can use this web viewer to view online files without having to download the files to your computer.
The directly download URL trick works for native Google documents as well. This comes really handy if you want to give users an option to download your Google Document as a read-only PDF file or your Google Spreadsheet as an Excel XLS file.
The above links will now download the same Google document in Word (.docx) and PDF formats. You can also specify txt, html, odt (OpenDocument) or epub for downloading the Google Document as an e-book.
The direct download links for Google Slides is slightly different then Google Documents. Here replace /edit with /export/format where format can be pptx for downloading Google Slides as Microsoft Powerpoint files or PDF for exporting the presentation as a PDF slideshow.
It works something like this. You upload an image file to Google Drive and make that file public. Google Drive will now generate a high-resolution thumbnail image of the uploaded file that you can directly embed on your website or emails.
Inside the share dialog, choose the permissions drop-down and select Anyone with a link. This will make the file visible to anyone on the internet who has access to the share link. The file will be available to even users who do not have a Google account.
Internally, the tool takes the public link of the image on your Google Drive and grabs the Open Graph image from the HTML. It then changes the s parameter of the OG image to switch to a high resolution thumbnail. It is a similar technique that we use to get direct links for Google Drive photos.
You can use this link to easily embed images into Google Sheets. The only downside of this approach is that you do not have control over the size of the image that is generated. In the previous example, you can easily change the width parameter to generate images of any specific size.
File-hosting services, such as Google Drive, can, at any time, make changes to their services; in particular, modifying the structure of link-sharing URLs. For example, in 2021 Google announced a Google Drive security update which added the resourcekey parameter to their file-sharing URLs. However, due to the nature of this update it seems that not all users (or all their files) will be immediately affected by this change: some Google Drive users will see the resourcekey parameter, others might not.
Next, you need to share that file, to make it accessible outside of Google Drive. The following screenshot, taken on a desktop PC, shows how to access the file-sharing and file-link options within Google Drive:
After you select the option to share the file, a Share with people and groups dialog box appears (see below). From here you can choose to share that file with particular individuals/groups or make it available to anyone who has the appropriate Google Drive link.
In the body of an email message in Microsoft Outlook, if you add a link that points to files that are stored on OneDrive or Microsoft SharePoint, Outlook recognizes the link as shareable, and it displays additional information about the link. This includes a visual indicator for the shareable link, the icon for the type of file that's shared through the link, the recipients who can access the link, and options to manage access to the link. The shareable links functionality in Outlook helps you make sure that links to other Microsoft 365 apps are shared appropriately from within Outlook without you having to open those applications to share the files.
Note: If you insert a recently used file from the list that's displayed under Link, Outlook will share the link by using the default settings that are set up for your organization by the tenant administrator.
When Outlook detects a shareable link, it applies special formatting to the link which includes a gray background, blue color for the link, and an appropriate icon for the shared document. These visual indicators make the link stand out to your recipients. If you paste the URL for a shared document into the body of an email message, Outlook automatically shortens it to display the name of the file.
After you select your options and select Apply, Outlook checks whether the recipients of your message will be able to access the shareable link. If you try to send a message while the check is in progress, Outlook displays the following warning:
If Outlook determines that one or more recipients can't access the shareable link, it changes the color of the shareable link to red, and displays a red exclamation mark in the upper-right corner of the link text. When you left-click the link, you'll see information about the cause of the access issue.
