Can confirm what @Nutter is experiencing. When I open the Chrome extension, go to Settings > Log out, and manually log out of the extension, I can get back in by just inputting my master password. I am not re-prompted for 2FA.

I start to use Bitwarden and enabled the Two Step Login but, this work only when i use directly thr website.
There is no two step login with Chrome BitWarden extension when we close the web brower or after xx minutes of inactivity ?

I am using Authy here for 2FA and Firefox extension on FFox 72.0.2 and Chrome extension and neither prompts me for the 2FA if in the extension I select logout. Only when I logout of the web interface am I prompted for the 2FA code.

I find that Lastpass is a bit more user friendly when it comes to 2FA. If you do not click on Trust this Device for 30 days then upon closing the browser (if you have enabled log me out on browser close in their extension) then your 2FA session is ended and you will have to re enter your 2FA code should you login again. As well you will be automatically logged out of LP as well. With BW one has to remember to actually do the logout via the extension in order to end the 2FA session and force the re entering of the 2FA code next session.

So over the weekend I set up my bit warden vault. I am now a Firefox user, and set up the extension for that with a pin code. I also bought a yobiky to lock down my PC when I go away on holiday should I get broken into at home.

Bitwarden browser extensions integrate password management directly into your favorite browser. Download a Bitwarden browser extension from your browser's marketplace or app store, or from the .css-sqbyc3--tw-text-opacity:1;color:rgb(23 93 220 / var(--tw-text-opacity));text-decoration-line:underline;Bitwarden Downloads page.

Browser extensions are supported for the two most recent versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. For Vivaldi, Brave, and Tor, only the most recent version is supported.

Now that you have mastered the basics let's dig into one more action that you will take regularly, Auto-fill and Auto-save, and three recommended setup steps, easier vault unlocking, pinning the extension to your browser, and disabling the browser's built-in password manager:

Bitwarden browser extensions have a unique Tab view, which automatically detects the URI (for example, google.com) of the page displayed in your open tab and finds any logins with corresponding URIs.

In Chrome or any Chromium-based browser (Edge, Opera, and Brave), navigate to the Passwords page by entering chrome://password-manager/settings in the address bar, substituting chrome for your browser name (for example, brave://password-manager/settings).

Gary, it sounds like you need to restart the browser and disable then re-enable the extension to clear any cached sessions. If that does not work, then uninstall the extension entirely, restart the browser, and reinstall the extension.

I have noticed recently that when I login to bitwarden using the Chrome Extension, it no longer ask for my Yubikey. I have logout and clear the cache to the browser but it still never ask for the key.

one thing to note, if I log into the extension with my master password, and then lock the extension through the extension settings I can use windows hello to unlock it, but if I restart my browser, I am back to square one.

Try to reinstall both the browser extension and the desktop app, this seemed to work for me. Chromium (Chrome, Edge tested) browsers seem to now require allowing permissions for the extension to communicate with native apps on your computer.

This worked for me. Not sure if it makes a difference but after uninstalling the chrome extension, I also restarted Windows. Once re-installed, bitwarden seems to be working correctly again. So far, anyway.

It apears that version 1.56.2 of the Bitwarden extension is now rolling out in the Chrome web store, and this updated release fixes many of the problems people are experiencing. If you are having difficulties, removing the extension from Chrome and installing this version may help.

I had same issues just now Decryt and Windows hello freeze. Several version changes look to have occurred over Browser/ Desktop. Edge continued to work but Chrome failed.
Removed extension - closed browser - cleared cache reinstalled version off Bitwarden site. 1.56.1 and Chrome has updated to Version 98.0.4758.82 (Official Build) (64-bit). Also on the PC desktop updated to 1.31.1.
Closing and restarting (clearing) your Chrome after each modification is usually good practice due to caching. Each system fix can have slightly different fixes, but 56.2 and 56.3 may be attempts to solve the mixed version issues occurring. Hope this helps

David, I did as you suggested. The extension is now functional and I am able to retrieve my 2 FA codes and they do copy to the clipboard. Much appreciated. Consider the crucial problem fixed since I have functionality.

@tgreer
The extension is still incredibly slow. I have tried using it on multiple high performance machines (my aforementioned M1 Max and a Ryzen Linux desktop) and hard as it is to believe, the extension is actually slower than JIRA or Google Drive.

Hi David, thank you for your quick replay.
I had tried uninstalling the browser extension to no avail, but deleting my data in Chrome parameters did the trick.
Thank you so much for your help
Have a good day

It looks like the Bitwarden team has been working overtime to pump out updates to the latest extension. **Version 1.56.5 is available now on the Chrome Web Store. Releases for non-Chromium browsers (e.g., Firefox) will be rolling out soon for within-browser updates, or check out the Bitwarden Github page for the latest browser extension releases.

Below is a list of the issues that may have been affected in the recent Chrome browser extension. If you have tried the potential fixes above and those have not helped, you might browse the threads below for other solutions:

Hi Bazza. Whether or not your extensions auto-update will depend on how you have setup your browser options. If you have set your extensions to update automatically within your browser, then yes, the Bitwarden extension should eventually auto-update.

The updated Bitwarden extension (version 1.56.3) for Chrome is now published in the Chrome Web Store, so please update the extension if your browser is not set to update it automatically. It may also be a good idea to disable the extension, restart Chrome, then re-enable the extension after it has updated to version 1.56.3.

Exact same issue here. Self hosted. Worked fine for multiple years. Can log in to web portal with same credentials but logging into Chrome extension, with server URL set to same URL as web portal, fails.

There was chrome update yesterday I think, wonder if that is the problem.
I was able to log back in after reinstalling the extention but it can not autofill anything in chrome and is not offering to save new

I had the same problem: no Bitwarden icon in Chrome. No problems in Firefox, but my work requires me to use Chrome for something. After looking around I found the solution.
Press the extensions icon in the toolbar and click the pin next to Bitwarden, see shot.

Ah, now I understand what you mean. You were unlocking with Windows Hello PIN, which is the option you must enable in the Desktop App. But the option in the browser extension only says Unlock with Biometrics, even though that also includes Windows Hello on Windows PCs.

Anyways, I just tried it on my Windows box using Firefox and the latest BW extension, and it seemed to work fine for me. You might try 'refreshing everything by disabling Unlock with Biometrics in the extension, then the desktop app, then re-enabling them in the reverse order (i.e., desktop app then browser extension).

As of today, Feb. 10, the Chrome extension always signs me out whenever the browser is closed, even if the option is set to NEVER sign out. This behaviour has never occurred prior to now, and is now happening constantly, requiring the password to be entered every time that Google Chrome is launched.

I am a new Bitwarden user with a Premium Individual account. I have the Desktop application installed and configured on a Windows 10 PC and I also have both the Chrome and Edge browser extensions installed. The Desktop app is v1.24.6 and both browsers have the v1.48.1 extension. The PC has all current OS updates and I access it via a Microsoft account with Windows Hello (Face ID and PIN) configured and functioning correctly.

While logged in to both desktop and chrome extension, disable the browser integration in the desktop app, try to enable biometrics in Chrome extension (getting the error again) then re-enable browser integration in the desktop app, then try to enable biometric login in the extension once more (successfully this time)

I downloaded Bitwarden from the website. I also enabled the extension to access file URIs. I already tried turning the features off and on again. I tried uninstalling the extension and enabling it. This had some results, namely:

After restarting my laptop since the installation of bitwarden 2022.6.0 I can no longer unlock by fingerprint on the browsers (Google or Firefox).
The desktop application opens correctly by fingerprint

Having the same issue. Using iOS 14.0.1 and iPadOS 14.0.1 and when on iOS chrome, opening BitWarden results in no site found. When I start BitWarden directly, it finds it fine. Weird. I guess I need more training.
Nb

FWIW I just made this change myself, was signed out of the web-vault and the MS Edge extension.
Once signed back in to the Edge extension was required for 2FA with my Yubikey 5C and was promptly logged in to my vault.
