Happy Friday, everyone!

This week, we're looking at assessment.  Your challenge is two-part this week:

1. Take a look at The University of Waterloo's list of assessment methods.  Select one method you feel would fit your flipped unit well.

2. Then look at Edutopia's 5 Steps to Assessment and think about how you would implement each step with the assessment method you chose.

Report back to us with your chosen assessment method and how you would implement it in your flipped unit!

For my unit on wound identification and care, I think it'd be great to do case studies.  That would give them some further real world situations to apply their knowledge.  In order to implement the 5 steps, I would have them explain their rationale for the type of wound they identified to ensure mastery of the content area.

Paula, I like those ideas for your unit!  It really makes sense and feels like a very natural way to assess.

For my unit on the Olympics, I think role play would be a fun way to assess.  I could have my students re-enact different aspects of the Olympics.  Sounds fun and memorable!

I like the idea of assessing through concept maps for my unit on the history of color.  Using a visual to represent learning seems most appropriate for this unit.  In order to assess using the 5 steps, I would be sure to give students time to rework/edit their maps if there was anything incorrect/innacurate on it in order to allow them to show mastery.

I would also do individual problem solving.  In order to assess accurately, I'd like students to problem solve a sequencing issue on their own.  Similarly to others, I'd provide an opportunity to investigate where they went wrong and have a second attempt at the code, if needed.

Michael, the concept maps sound like a really good pairing with your color unit.  A visual to represent these visual ideas!

Re-enacting sounds like such a fun way to assess!  Recording the re-enactments may help students review their learning!

Paula, I think case studies are perfect for your unit.  I'm sure there are many real-world examples you can find that would be applicable!
