So I recently installed the Sims 4 again, and had to re-enable mods after the newest update. Everything was fine, so I went to create a Sim, only to be unable to pick traits or aspirations, which I looked up and found out it was a faulty mod or something like that, and after trying everything I just decided to restart my file. (Which meant backing up my folder before deleting it entirely and then starting the game, which restarted my game entirely). After that, I installed some new mods and kept some of the older ones since I'm pretty sure they weren't the bad ones. Though I've tried everything, none of my mods are showing up in the game, I won't even get the popup in the beginning. I have it checked to allow mods, I've tried restarting my computer, restarting my file, checking for bad mods, deleting them entirely. I've even tried running my first file, and even swapping the new mods with all the old ones, and they won't even pop up then.
I checked it out, and it didn't say that. As stupid as this may sound, I think I apparently mixed up files. I was putting my mods in my backup file it turns out, so there wasn't any in my actual file. But thank you for the response! I
so I have a mods folder and the resource.cfg file is there, checked the properties and mods are enabled. I played the game one day and all my mods worked fine, the next day none of them are showing up in game at all. even though my computer says they are all still there. ive uninstalled, reinstalled, moved the file out and back in and every other suggestion I have found so far and none are working but I also haven't found a solution to this specific problem. anyone have any other suggestions?
Mods need to be checked with every new patch or they can cause issues.
EA does support using Mods and CC, but you use them at your own risk.
If your game runs well without your Mods and CC. you may need to check each one to find the one that causes problems, with every new patch.
Then you can contact the Mods and CC creators for updates or solutions to the problem with their creation.
Also, check the sims forum its a lot of help their for Mods and CC.
I have recently been downloading some CC to my sims 4 game however even though the content show up in my mods file when I load the game they are not there even though my old mods are I have tried absolutely everything and have no idea what to do just confused as to why my old mods are there and my recently downloaded ones are not ?
I don't work or have any association with EA. I give advice to the best of my knowledge and cannot be held responsible for any damage done to your computer/game.
Please only contact me via PM when asked to do so.
I wanted to have ALL the game files on the SSD, not just the games itself, so I created a new user on my Mac, to be used specifically for Sims 4, and set it up so that this user has the SSD as the default storage/home directory. As far as I understood, this is the only way to allow ALL game data to be stored externally.
The problem I have now, is the game refuses to run with any mods. It runs perfectly fine 'vanilla', but as soon as I load any mod in, it throws the "Cannot start because game data is missing or damaged"-error.
I tried running the game on my other user (the admin user) and it worked loading it up with the test mod I was using (game itself is installed on the SSD but placing the mod in the automatically created EA folder) but as soon as went on to the other user and put the mod in the Mods folder on the SSD, it refuses to start again.
Hi, I just saw this looking for an answer to a similar issue and I found that when I installed the sims 4 and transferred it to my ssd it kept the folder for the sims 4 saved on my laptop and I copied all of my mod files into the Mods folder saved on my laptop and they've now appeared in the load-up so I'm assuming that's worked fine. I know I'm quite late to this message but hope it helps all the same
Locking this as it's several years old and advice has been updated in the master thread for storing the Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder on an external drive here -Creating-a-symlink-in-macOS-to-store-the-Sims-4-folder-on-an/m-p/1232...
@cari1117 it could be that the new mods you downloaded are out of date. You would have to make sure to only download mods that are compatible with the most recent game update/patch. Also, any of your old Mods or Custom Content (CC) can also become outdated any time the game gets an update/patch.
Deleting the new mods might not have been enough unless you also deleted the localthumbcache.package file as well. Bits of corrupted data can remain in this file, so it is best to delete it if you are having trouble (it will regenerate a new file when needed).
Here is a procedure for determining if any of your Mods or CC is outdated , and how to fix it.
2) Delete the localthumbcache.package file in the game folder. This is important because it can contain bits of corrupted data even after you remove your CC/Mods! This is found in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.
3) Fix your game in the EA app by navigating to The Sims tile in your Library and selecting the three dots in the top right corner and selecting "Repair". (For Origin: by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list. Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game.)
5) Now you can try adding back items from your Mods folder one at a time checking your game each time to see which item is causing your game to not work properly. If you have a lot of items, you can try the 50/50 Method, working in batches to see which CC item or Mod is the culprit. (You could have multiple items causing problems.)
The CC creators will usually update the CC items and Mods after these updates, so when you find out which one is the culprit, you can get the updated version from whoever made that item of CC in the first place. You should try these steps anytime you have problems in your game to rule out CC/Mods problems. It is the responsibility of the Mods/CC creators to update their items anytime EA releases a patch/update, and it is the responsibility of the people who use Mods/CC to make sure they are using the most recent version.
As the fourth major expansion to the Sims video games series, Sims 4 has attracted many players. However, some issues are reported with Sims 4 mods and one of them is Sims 4 mods not working. This problem might happen due to various factors, including corrupted cache files, disabled mods, and etc.
Luckily, some users have shared some methods that helped them fix Sim 4 not showing up issue, and I have summarized these methods and listed them below. Before you try the following solutions, there are two things that need your attention:
In Sims 4, an option is provided to allow players to enable or disable the mods in game according to their needs. If this option is disabled, you will definitely experience Sims 4 mods not showing up issue. So, you should firstly check if mods are enabled in your Sims 4. To do that, you need to:
Sometimes, players are unable to load any mods for the current households while they can load mods for the a new one. So, it is possible that there are some corrupt files or modules in the current household. And these corrupt items might be conflicting with the mods and prevent them from loading properly.
In this case, you should create a new household and check if it can load the mods. If Sims 4 mods not working issue disappear, it will be sure that this issue is caused by the household problem. You can give up the original household and use the new one.
