Current use: The unit of kilobits per second, along with other multiples of data-transfer rate, are used in a variety of applications including networking, phone-line networks, wireless communications, and the Internet. In the early days of the Internet, 56 kbps modems were common in networking. Data transfer typically occurs at higher rates today, depending on the connection.
Current use: Units of data-transfer rate are used throughout a variety of fields such as networking, audio data, and computer data interfaces. The unit of Mbps is widely used in networking technologies, such as phone-line networks, wireless communications, and the Internet. Internet service providers often advertise download or upload rates in terms of Mbps.
Welcome to our online megabit per second to kilobits per second conversion calculator. This is just one of our data transfer unit conversion calculators which can be used to make virtually any kinds of conversions between digital data measurement units. This one is a simple online tool available and convenient for all kinds of megabit per second to kilobits per second conversion. To start your conversion operation, please, enter the value in megabit per second (Mbps) to convert to kilobytes per second (kbps).
The difference is only in the magnitude: a 1 mbps connection has 1,000 times more capacity than a 1 kbps connection. Network capacity, or bandwidth, is often called network speed or connection speed in common language, but that is technically incorrect. A network with a capacity of 1 kbps can transmit 1 kbits of data every second.
Both units are used for the same purpose, except one is appropriate where network capacity is low, e.g. a 2G mobile network with its 50 kbit/s (40 kbit/s in practice) capacity is easier written as kbps instead of 0.05 mbps. It also makes for better posters, banners and ad headlines. Mbps or mbit/s is used in most modern network definitions. For example, you probably have a 100 mbps LAN card on your computer or smartphone. Most internet connection plans offered by ISPs are also described in mbps, e.g. 25 mbps, 50 mbps, 75 mbps.
To convert from kbps to mbps you need to only divide by 1,000. This can most easily be done by shifting the decimal point 3 positions to the left. An example step by step calculation is shown below, as well as a kbit/s to mbit/s conversion table.

The difference is their magnitude: a 1 mbps connection has 1,000 times more capacity than a 1 kbps connection. Network capacity (bandwidth), is often mistakenly called network speed, connection speed, or internet speed in common language. No one can tell you fast is a network with a capacity of 100 mbit/s, but they can tell what throughput it will have per slice of time: a network with a capacity of 100 mbps can transmit 100 mbits of data per second.
Both units are used for the same purpose - to measure network bandwidth (capacity) per second. Kilobits per second is more convenient if network capacity is low, such as when speaking about the capacity of a 2G mobile network which is theoretically 50 kbit/s (40 kbit/s in practice), writing it as 0.05 mbps is neither convenient, nor does it look good in an ad headline. The megabits per second unit is used to describe most modern networks - mobile, Wi-Fi and landline alike. Most ISP plans are usually listed in mbps, e.g. 10 mbps, 25 mbps, 50 mbps, 75 mbps, 100 mbps. Your home router can probably reach speeds of 600 mbps or even 1300 mbps, depending on the frequency used to disperse the signal.
To convert from mbps to kbps you need to only multiply the number of mbit/s by 1,000. This can be done by moving the decimal point 3 positions to the left. Say you have a 10 mbps connection and want to know its equivalent in kbps. All you need to do is calculate 10 x 1,000 = 10,000 kbps. A step by step calculation is shown below, as well as a kbit/s to mbit/s conversion table.

I am trying to convert files at 128 kbps low compression to at least 256 kbps to use on special sound/light equipment but am coming up empty handed. I try different formats but am not successful with this process. If you can help me with this that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.
Is there still an option within iTunes, whilst syncing to another device, to "Convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC"? I've read about it, and I'd like to try it to maybe squeeze more songs onto my iPhone when syncing from my Mac; a lot of my songs are about 10Mb each, and I think this would reduce some of them as they transfer. But I can't find the option / switch. Thanks....
Live Streaming Bitrate Calculator is a tool that helps you calculate the recommended and maximum bitrate for your Live Stream in order to make sure that your viewers can watch your stream without buffering or lag. Using our bitrate calculator you can get the accurate video bitrate and audio bitrate required for live streaming and video hosting.
Bitrate is the rate at which you send bits to the streaming platform. It measures how much data of your audio and video information is transmitted in a given amount of time. Audio bitrate and video bitrate are commonly measured in kilobits per second (kbps) and megabits per second (Mbps). The higher the bitrate, the faster your internet connection when streaming video content online with video streaming software.
Frames per second (FPS), also known as frame rate, is the frequency of consecutive images called frames appearing on display. The higher number of FPS means smoother motion and less lag time between each image change. The most common frame rates are 30 fps for standard video, and 60 fps for high-definition displays
On the other hand, HD video resolution refers to high definition. This is the newer line of video resolutions that have become popular in recent times, and it offers a much more detailed picture than SD because it uses more pixels.
In the Erlang and VoIP Bandwidth Calculator, what is the significance of the Voice Paths option. Secondly I want to calculate the total kbps required for 1Erlang of Voice Traffic using a 8kbps Voice codec, 20msec Frame and blocking of 0.01%.What is the formaul to calculate?
There is such an option in iTunes for my iPod. Did you guys try this option, can you hear the difference of your songs after this converting? It seems like I can't hear the difference, but still kind of psychological thing spin in my head saying "Your sound quality isn't good as before".
There is without question less audio data present in compressed files. AAC is a fairly good compression algorithm, but whether or not you perceive a difference is entirely dependent upon your personal ear.
