Homeworks can be used to solidify your knowledge of the material in each ofthe chapters. Most homeworks are based on running little simulators, whichmimic some aspect of an operating system. For example, a disk schedulingsimulator could be useful in understanding how different disk schedulingalgorithms work. Some homeworks are just short programming exercises, allowingyou to explore how real systems work.
Some simulations have a short video with one of the authors introducing thebasic concepts of how to use the simulator to generate homeworkproblems. Exciting, because you have to read less! Not exciting, because youhave to hear us speak.
NEW: Homework source code has been moved to GitHubhere. Thebest way to access them is to type git clone -arpacidusseau/ostep-homework/ and then cd into therelevant homework directory, read the README, and follow directions at the endof the relevant chapter.
Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.90.375.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? I have all of them. Just bought High School Years tonight.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I'm not sure how you can do it.
What happens when the bug occurs? My Sims won't do their homework. They don't have the book in their inventory as usual so I bought them from a bookcase. Neither of my teen Sims will do their homework even when I click on it. My child Sims have also stopped doing their homework even though they previously did it. I had a mod that overhauled the education system but I removed it and it's still happening.
What do you expect to see? I want them to do their homework.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I added High School Years.
Just wanted to thank everyone who suggested removing or updating the cc beds. I had deleted all build and buy cc from my game except the pufferhead cc pack, because I have a child Sim that I envision being super into Harry Potter. Once I deleted the cc pufferhead mattress and bed frame, my Sims appear to be fine again. I didn't even remove the bed from my mods folder, I just deleted the bed from the lot. My sims can now complete homework, they no longer cancel meal related actions, and no t-posing. Hopefully this was the solution because I was going insane!
The community has mixed feelings about homework questions. While some feel that students should be able to get an answer to any question they want to ask, others feel that Stack Overflow is not a place for homework questions at all.
This is an attempt to reconcile these two extreme positions in a way that is acceptable to the majority of the community. Note that this post is not the official position of the Stack Overflow administrators, but rather a community-edited effort to provide clear guidelines on how to respond to homework. Individual community members should, of course, use their own judgment.
It is okay to ask about homework. For one, it would be impossible to stop it all, even if we wanted to. Stack Overflow exists to help programmers learn and provide a standard repository for programming problems, both simple and complex, and this includes helping students.
Providing an answer that doesn't help a student learn is not in the student's own best interest. Therefore, you might choose to treat homework questions differently than other questions.
Understand the difference between "asking a question about your homework" and "asking a specific question about the code in your homework". You should never ask a question about your homework, because more often than not, it will not meet the recommendations in the rest of these guidelines. Instead, ask about the code you wrote to solve your homework problem and be specific with the inputs, desired outputs, and error messages. It is ideal if you take your code and create a minimal, reproducible example instead of pasting your entire code, especially if it is a long code block.
Recognize that homework is likely to include artificial constraints, and honor those constraints. Also, be aware that these constraints may affect whether a question should be closed as a duplicate. That said, there is nothing wrong with also including information in your answer about how the problem would normally be solved in the real world. It's helpful for students to learn real-world patterns, and this also makes your answer more useful to future readers.
Failure to comply with these guidelines is not a reason to downvote an answer. Naturally, if the answer is incorrect, low quality, poorly explained, and/or something that you would downvote anyway, then it is fine to do so. Remember that it's not always obvious at first glance that a question is homework, especially when you're not expecting to see it here. You can, according to your judgment, leave comments on the answer with suggestions on how to improve it.
Homework is assigned on a regular basis to help students become more self-reliant, learn to work independently, improve skills, master concepts, and complete assigned projects. Appropriate weekend homework may also be given. The daily amount of time required for homework will vary depending on the maturity, abilities, and individual needs of students as well as the requirements of the course.
Homework is assigned at least 4 nights a week. By doing their homework, students will:
Each student will be responsible for creating and using a GitHub repo for the development and submission of all assignments. You will be using the git source code management tool to maintain your homework code.
For each assignment, a precise time will be specified on the due date (usually at 11:59 PM PST). The programming submission must be made correctly via your github account and your git commit SHA must be submitted on the appropriate submission page using the process described on the submission instructions page. Read and follow those instructions carefully for each homework. Failure to do so may lead to a 0 on the assignment even though you may have had all the code working on your machine. Much of software development requires following strict processes, so it is important you start to understand and follow those processes.
Collaboration: Your homework assignments and exams should be individual efforts unless explictly stated otherwise. While collaboration and online searches are common in the workplace, taking code from those sources is usually not allowed due to licensing and can have legal ramifications. Similarly, while collaboration in a company is common, we are training you to be capable computer scientists and, thus, you need to develop the skills for yourself. You will have higher levels of collaboration for team-based projects in future courses and in the workplace.
The Homework Sets Editor user interface is divided into two main regions. The Actions Panel is at the the top of the page gives the user a list of various useful tasks that may be done with the homework sets in the course. The Problem Set list is at the bottom of the page and gives a selectable list of the homework sets in the course, along with options for editing the problems in each set and the users assigned to each set.
The bottom region of the Homework Sets Editor page contains a list of homework sets, called the Problem Set List. When Homework Set Editor is first accessed, this region of the page will list all homework sets in the course unless there are more than 500 of them. This list may be filtered and sorted as described below.
The list of homework sets displayed in the Problem Set List in the lower portion of the Homework Sets Editor can be filtered using the Show... action. This does not change the list of homework sets shown to students or change the availability of homework sets in any way. This filtering mechanism is designed to be a convenience for instructors whose WeBWorK courses contain a large number of homework sets. By filtering the list of homework sets shown in the Problem Set List, instructors may more easily select sets for editing, scoring, etc.
By default users with ta permissions (permission level 5) may use this feature. The permission level required for this action is determined by value of %permissionLevelsaccess_instructor_tools. This value is set in the global.conf file, and cannot be change from the Course Configuration page.
The list of homework sets displayed in the Problem Set List in the lower portion of the Homework Sets Editor can be sorted using the Primary Sort:...Secondary Sort: action. This does not sort the list of homework sets as it is shown to students. This sorting mechanism is designed to be a convenience for instructors whose WeBWorK courses contain a large number of homework sets. By sorting the list of homework sets shown in the Problem Set List, instructors may more easily select sets for editing, scoring, etc.
The Edit... action provides a convenient way for instructors to quickly edit the open date(s), due date(s) and answer date(s) of one or more homework set. Selecting sets for editing using this option also allows instructors to change whether or not the selected sets are visible to students and whether or not the selected sets have a reduced credit period. This action does not directly provide a means to edit the other details of the sets selected. (To edit all of the global set details of a homework set, one must go to the Problem Set Detail page for that set. See below.)
