...there is now a useful answer to your question.

Those of you who have written to ask me this know why it's hard to
find pictures you've just downloaded. They don't show up in the
Gallery right away because Android needs to do a new media scan to
find them, and I haven't found a way to force it to do that. So the
only thing you can do is wait (and possibly restart your phone).

But that's not good enough, of course, so I've come up with a better
solution. The latest update includes a "Downloads" view that you can
access from the menu on your user page. (Just hit your Menu button and
select the "Downloads" item). This brings up a list of all images in
the FlickrCompanion/download directory on your SD card, which is where
FlickrCompanion saves all downloaded images.

You'll see that most of the entries in the list will have a thumbnail
next to the image name (Some don't, because Android runs into memory
problems when trying to open very large image files. I'm working on
that). You can tap on an entry in the list to open it in Android's
standard image viewer. And from there, of course, you can do the same
things you can do with any image on your phone -- set it as a
wallpaper or contact picture, share it with friends, etc.

Of course, those images will still (eventually) show up in your
Gallery. But this should give you a more convenient way to see
pictures you have downloaded.

Let me know if you have any issues with it. And enjoy!
