With offline maps in iOS 17 and later, you can use Maps for information and navigation even when you don't have a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Offline maps include details like hours and ratings on places, turn-by-turn directions for driving, walking, cycling, or riding transit, and estimated arrival times.

Offline maps do not sync across your devices. Offline maps are only available in select areas. An offline map for a specific region is not intended for use in all regions. Features vary by country and region.

Included in The National Map are the latest elevation data from the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), surface water data from the National Hydrography Datasets (NHD), and place name data from the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). In addition, The National Map provides continuously-updated, seamless datasets for recreational trails, roads, boundaries, structures, land cover, and imagery.

The National Map also serves as the data source for modern USGS topographic maps such as US Topos and OnDemand Topos. US Topo maps and scans of historic USGS topographic maps are also available as a part of The National Map.

Data and products from The National Map can be used by government, industry, academia, as well as the public, in support of geologic mapping, natural hazard planning, natural resource conservation, emergency management, recreation, and many, many other applications.

topoBuilder is a public web application released by the National Geospatial Program that enables users to request customized USGS-style topographic maps, known as an OnDemand Topo, that utilize the best available data from The National Map.

The U.S. Geological Survey's National Geospatial Program developed the GNIS in support of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names as the official repository of domestic geographic names data, the official vehicle for geographic names use by all departments of the Federal Government, and the source for applying geographic names to Federal electronic and printed products.

I am just wondering if anyone else has been having this issue. I can set up an offline area in the Field Maps online web application, then when I try to download that offline area on Field Maps Mobile (tested on two android devices) I receive the "Offline Areas Failed to Download" Error and the log tells me that feature tiling is disabled. Now this is frustrating. However, when I create on offline area in the Field Maps Mobile App, the map is created an downloads just fine.

I ran into this issue and was able to "fix" it by turning sync off, then back on for ALL layers included in the web map, make sure any tile packages included in the map or basemaps have Offline Mode enabled:

I just want to add to the collective experience, I too have been getting the "Offline Areas Failed to Download" Error and it began after I added a layer to the web map which was a point layer with photo attachments. If I set the Offline Map Area to be the extent of that data it apparently "packages" it up but errors when I try to download it. I discovered I had to create a series of smaller overlapping Map Areas for it to work. A bit pants really as if I exclude that layer I can have the full extent of the datasets.

It would be good if anyone from ESRI could confirm if there was some sort of limit to the number of features with attachments or best practise with attachments. In my case I want as a read only reference layer a point layer which may have several hundred points each with a single photo attached. Is that asking too much of field maps?

So I decided to downgrade the image size of my attachments because when you click on a dot to see its attachment (in field maps) it does not appear to be a zoomable image. So I decided to resize the images to 800x600 pixels which significantly reduces the file size. This allowed the download to complete without error and I get to keep the whole dataset, no need to break it up into several "Map Areas".

I'm having the same issues described in this thread and have really been banging my head over what the issue could be... Everything was working fine then all of a sudden, our field staff are getting these download failures which I'm able to replicate. Map areas of a smaller size work fine but larger areas fail to download in Field Maps (both within the app and in the online map area creation).

I currently have a support ticket open with ESRI about this and she casually mentioned that attachments have been an issue for folks lately, but it does not appear to be a main focus of our troubleshooting so far (I do have layers with attachments). I am currently tasked with republishing all of the map layers and recreating the maps- glad (?) to know others are having this issue too and it's not just me!

Here are maps in Garmin image file format people have created from OSM data. Sites are listed by continent, then by country alphabetically, then by suspected usefulness (eg. sites which cover a whole continent and are updated regularly are listed first.) Maps offered worldwide or for a continent are often offering country downloads - hence they are only listed once and not for each region again. As OpenStreetMap is changing fast - only maps updated during the last 6 month should be listed. Permanently Dead links - please remove the entry.

Maps are offered in different formats. As .exe for Mapsource and Basecamp and Qlandkarte GT installation (.exe can usually be unpaved with 7-zip or other programs). As .gmapi for Mac OSx Roadtrip/Basecamp. As gmapsupp.img for direct copying to a Garmin GPS device.

For instructions to make your own Garmin map from OSM data, see OSM Map On Garmin#Creating Your Own Maps from OSM Data. For instructions to make a cycle map, see OSM Map On Garmin/Cycle map. For the MapSource installer, that allows you to use these maps with Garmin's Windows software, see Garmin Mapsource installer.

Uploading maps to the OsmAnd app is a key step to ensure smooth operation and use of offline navigation. Without offline maps, the app cannot function fully. Downloading maps gives you access to maps of different regions, allowing you to navigate without an Internet connection.

You have two main ways to download maps: 1) view the list of regions in the main menu, or 2) select the required region directly on the map. This gives you the flexibility to select the regions you want and ensures that the maps will fit your plans.

Although OsmAnd supports both Vector and Raster, it is recommended to start working with vector maps offline. This type of maps (read more about Map OsmAnd types here) ensures reliable operation of all key functions of the application, including Search, Navigation, and Context menu. This is especially important if your travels include trips to remote locations or places with limited internet access.

When you first launch the app, you will be prompted to download a map based on your current online location, or you can skip this step. This is convenient, as you immediately get access to local maps corresponding to your location.

OsmAnd has a small world map built in. You do not need to download large maps of any region if you are not going to use them. If you need a map covering the whole planet, including major cities, roads and rivers, you can download the Detailed World Map.

One way to download a map is to zoom out on the world map and briefly tap to select a region to download. This area will be highlighted in yellow and a panel will appear at the bottom with the name of the region and a suggestion to download it or select other maps.

Note
On the small screen, the map selected for downloading will be highlighted in yellow, maps that have already been downloaded will be highlighted in green, and deactivated maps will be highlighted in orange. Deactivated maps are bypassed to speed up the program in case you have a lot of loaded maps.

Footpath will download offline maps for the currently selected map style within a 0.25 mi (400 meters) buffer on either side of the route. If you have the Footpath Topo map style selected, Footpath will also download satellite imagery so that you can use the Satellite Topo map style offline.

Anyone can create maps for free. Share and collaborate as with any other Google Apps document. No additional registration needed, just use your Google accounts, including Google Apps for Work and Google Apps for Education.

Thousands of shapefile maps can be downloaded for free from the following websites, including country shapefiles, shapefiles at province or state level, and other administrative boundaries maps. The shapefile (or ESRI shapefile) format is a geospatial vector format, and is one of the most commonly used map formats.

Free country shapefile maps can be downloaded below, which have already been integrated into StatPlanet. Maps indicated with an asterisk (*) are Flash maps rather than shapefile maps. Please note that not all country versions are using the latest version of StatPlanet. To update the country version to the latest version, please see the update instructions.
