I've taken the plunge and bought a second hand AXYZ cnc 4008.by, on FlickrI'd like to get Aspire but have a few technical type questionsI have to run windows xp as the controller is of the old type so says AXYZ. Can I still use aspire? Will I need to purchase a post processor for aspire to work?At the moment the machine only uses tool path but I'd like to use Apire and some sort pf package that I can draw simple shapes to cnc straight from the cnc machine.AXYZ have said it may be worth upgrading to a a2mc controller but at 9000 its a bit steep and cant really work out if its worth upgrading.

What are the benefits.Lots of questions so I'm sorry. I'm fine with the opporation of cnc's but I literally have just started looking into how they actually work and its proving to be quite complicated.Any help/ advise very welcomed.

Thanks is advance Vectric Apprentice Posts: 8 Joined: Wed Apr 10, 2013 6:38 pm Model of CNC Machine: axyz 4008, 2005. I have an AXYZ 5010 and these are bullet proof machines. I use Aspire exclusively. The boys at Vectric modified a postprossesor for me when I purchased the machine in Dec of 2008, beginning of 2009.I don't really use 'Toolpath' that much. It's a pain in the.ss and and takes far too long to upload files.

I use 'DNC' and have no issues with it at all. For large 3D files, I'll sometimes load it into memory, but allot of my work is basic 2D stuff, or V carve programs. One good piece of advice I can give, is to take a good look through your manual, and familiarize yourself with the machine. If you get stuck, give me shout, and I'll see if I can help you out.John. Very kind of you, thanks. It doesnt seem to complicated as there is no tool changer. It is handy that I have the manual too. I have just taken out some technical help with AXYZ in the UK so hopefully they will be useful to help me get it up and running. There are some blown fuses I believe so fingers crossed thats all it is.

The 3 phase is being hooked up on Friday so I hope to get it all turned on over the weekend.Do you use XP? Or does your machine come with the a2mc controller? My controler is the older amc controler and they say this may hinder the use of Aspire.heres a couple of pieces I've made on the university machines.by, on FlickrIts a mountain range in ScotlandMy new business is surfboards thoughby, on Flickr Vectric Apprentice Posts: 8 Joined: Wed Apr 10, 2013 6:38 pm Model of CNC Machine: axyz 4008, 2005. Like the millenium bug thenThe little box that the ethernet cable connects to costs around 400 so I think I'll update to w7 or 8 before the year. ArrivesLooks like the simple solution is to use an old xp machine for now and do all my programming and cad work on my more up to date computer. Thanks for the info John.

So you think I can go ahead and purchase Aspire or what are you using with success?Axyz seem to call the AMC a Machine controller This is the big upgrade coming in at a wopping 9000 I've read all the website sales stuff and still don't understand quite what the benefit would be?They also call the little box connected between the cnc and the computer into the controller too this is the wee box that costs 400 I'm led to believe Am I correct? I have an AXYZ millennium running Toolpath. I have downloaded V Carve which I find very intuitive to use but when I send the individual NC files to Toolpath if they require a tool change from say a V tool to milling cutter the shapes start cutting on a different start point. If I carve say the word BAD, machine starts on bottom left corner of the B. If I add an oval shape around the word BAD, Toolpath draws a tight rectangle round the oval and sees the left hand corner of this as its start point.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Vectric Apprentice Posts: 10 Joined: Fri Mar 15, 2013 11:43 pm Model of CNC Machine: AXYZ.
