Diversifying the white male dominated tech industry is quite the task, especially outside major cities. But there are two kickass Australian women who've found neon-lit ways to start working on this, especially in regional areas.
Choose the type of setting that is best for you because your happiness and contentment will lead to you being a better teacher. The ultimate goal is to have the best teachers in all the schools in our country, inner city, suburban, and everything in between. In order to be a kickass teacher you need to be in the setting that is right for you.
Two years after signing with Ferret Music, See You Next Tuesday are older and definitely not wiser, but are still pretty kickass. Comprised of four unassuming guys from suburban Michigan, See You Next Tuesday has made another move forward in their progression as a band, this time stepping in to record their new album, Intervals. Recording with Dan Kenny and Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studios (This is Hell, Suffocation, etc.) in Long Island, NY and mastering the record with Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed) Intervals sees the band expanding on elements of melody, aggression, and time that Parasite foreshadowed. Bassist Travis Martin remarked on the new record, Intervals is the first album that the four of us have written together, since Fox joined the band only a couple of weeks prior to the recording of our first Ferret release Parasite. It is a more mature album and definitely darker sounding. The presentation of the album is also much more serious. The funny song titles are gone, the jokes are gone, it has a different feel to it." Wrapped up with artwork by Chad Lenjer at Discordant Art, Intervals will be unleashed on September 30th.
Not only was this a kickass last show to their winter tour, it was also an extra special show because it was the official last show for Suburban Legends. The Orange County based Ska band, Suburban Legends took the stage one last time as this was their final national tour. Beginning their career 15 years ago, The Santa Cruz Catalyst was one of the first venues they ever played in. Having been around the block a few times, Suburban Legends have accumulated a diverse fan base and never failing to exceed their expectations. For example, the band released their 7th album in June of 2015 titled Forever in the FriendZone. The album stands 14 songs strong consisting of powerful horns and a collection of original tracks.
That being said, I was a little disappointed to see that Suicide Squad chose to create a Harley Quinn that was so pathetically dependent on her Puddin'. In the film, her greatest wish is to be married in the suburbs living a normal life with Joker. She is only motivated by her desire to be near the Joker. Whereas the Harley I fell in love with is always armed with a one-liner, pun, or quip, much of the new Harley's humor revolves around her sexuality. The juxtaposition of her violence and sexuality are played for humor; men ogling her as she changes is meant to make us laugh; her desire for a normal life contrasted with her skimpy clothes and overt sexuality must be funny. Rather than laughing at her jokes, I feel like the audience is asked to spend much of the time laughing at her.
The Joneses
Starring David Duchovny (The X Files), Demi Moore (Charlie's Angels), Amber Heard (Zombieland) and former supermodel Lauren Hutton, this dramedy follows a picture-perfect family moving in the suburbs, loved and envied by their neighbors, who don't suspect they are actually marketers of upscale products.
