Hi there :-)
I think I recognise most of you so far. For those that don't know,
I've been a web developer for ten years, the majority in DHTML with a
ColdFusion backend. I picked up Flex around v1.5 when I started with a
UK law firm, and we're winning industry awards on the back of this
work.

Ben - did we invite anyone @Adobe ? I think it's important that they
are here to hear what we say, and put their views.

Here are some topics I think merit discussion (please start a new
thread for each, and leave this thread for hellos) :

1) How can we manage another 200-user talk with the SDK team better ?
2) What is the role and scope of the Community Commitee (a few
paragraphs of 'statement of intent' or something) ?
3) Compile a list of things in the SDK that need talking about
4) A process for each of the things in 3) that will lead to a
consensus opinion from this group, and how that is then presented back
to the Community and Adobe
5) Start grinding through each of 3) using 4).

I'm sure you all have other ideas too, so feel free to kick off or
tell me I'm being an ejit :-)

I think most of you know me already but I figure an introductions
thread can't hurt. I've been a web developer for about 7 years,
working with Flex since Flex 2 Beta 2, and before that was primarily a
Flash developer, using bits and pieces of other client and server side
technologies from time to time as well. My career began in a small
design agency, then went to the enterprise at Fidelity Investments and
now I am a consultant with Universal Mind.

Hey all,

Ben, thanks for the invite to the group.

For those who don't know me. I also started during Flex Beta 2. Got
into AIR early with the eBay project at EffectiveUI, worked on Market
Replay while at Univeral Mind last year, and spend my free time
working on the Merapi Project with others in the community.

Sorry I missed the first meeting... looking forward to the next.

Hello Chums,

My name is Tony Hillerson, and thanks Ben for the invitation. I
started using Flex just after it was released. I got to work with Flex
full time at EffectiveUI and I have a great time doing it. I am the
maintainer of an open source project called RubyAMF (http://
rubyamf.googlecode.com, http://github.com/thillerson/rubyamf) and I
have recently released a book co-authored with a friend of mine,
Daniel Wanja, called Flex on Rails (flexonrails.com).

The role I'd like to play in the group is as an advocate for changes
to the Flex Framework that bring practices from other successful
languages. I'm lucky enough to be able to work with a few different
languages and platforms: Rails, plain old Ruby, Java for server side
stuff and Android, and iPhone development, and I like to compare the
good points of Flex with those languages and the bad parts of Flex/
Actionscript with those languages. I hope in the future that Flex and
Actionscript takes cues from these other successful languages in order
to continue being one of the best DSLs for user interfaces available.

Hi friends,

Since it seems like we’re doing introductions, I’m RJ Owen.  I’ve worked at EffectiveUI for three years now and have been privileged to be part of some really amazing projects with Flex from late in the 1.5 days to where it is now.  I blog a good bit, hoping someone out there cares about my thoughts on RIA technology, and have been involved in editing and reviewing several different Flex books.  I won’t bore you with lists of my cool projects or awards because you’re all doing things just as amazing if not better, and I was never very good at self-promotion. :)

I think I know most of you, either from conferences or online or through working together or just through playing with your open-source projects, and I’m excited to be on the team.  I’m honored to be in the group with such a great cast of Flex heroes and am excited to see what kind of ideas we can come up with.  I’d love to be involved in communicating whatever we come up with to Adobe, though I’m also happy to just contribute or to play whatever other role we need.

After introductions, I guess I’d like to propose that we promote someone to be a group moderator and then start adding our ideas to the questions Tom proposed (plus any others the rest of the group thinks we should discuss?)  Maybe we could start a set of threads for each?

Thanks for getting this together Ben and Ben!

Hello fellow developers,
My name is Brian Holmes and I'm a software engineer with Universal
Mind. Like many of you I started around the flex 1.5-2 days and have
been working with flex ever since. I've been a web developer since
2000 and have worked with many different languages and technologies.
I too feel honored to be invited to the group and look forward to our
attempt to help steer our favorite common interface language.

Thanks for setting this group up guys.

Brian..
