Hi all,

I just installed 8.2.9.76+trusty on my Ubuntu system for I believe the first time (on this OS installation), and I have some errors:

kentr@karlap:~$ fieldworks-flex
'/usr/lib/fieldworks/DistFiles' in MONO_PATH doesn't exist or has wrong permissions.
'/usr/lib/fieldworks/Output_x86_64/Debug' in MONO_PATH doesn't exist or has wrong permissions.
Could not set X locale modifiers
[ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.ArgumentException: A null reference or invalid value was found [GDI+
I've checked and neither of the two files exist. Nor does MONO_PATH, outside of fieldworks:
$ echo $MONO_PATH

I assume something in all this is why it cannot talk to X and died, which results in nothing but a window blip unless I run this on the command line.

Any thoughts on what went wrong?

Grace,

Hi Kent,

Have you tried to open FLEx? Seems like an error similar to this has been occurring for a while but it doesn't cause problems. Try it and see.

Sorry? I don't get what you're asking. Or at least, as I read it, that's what I did --so I'm assuming you mean something else.  If I try to run "Fieldworks Language Explorer" from the dash, I get a brief blip of a dialog box, then nothing. So I ran it in the terminal, and got the output I cited earlier.  Is there another way to start FLEx?

Hi Kent, I'm sorry it's taking so long to get you going. Email is even harder from different time zones.

One other thing you could check: When you installed FLEx on this computer do you remember a dialog where you had to click "yes" to the copyright, and there was a question about adding existing users to the "fieldworks group"?

If it did add you to the fieldworks group (for permissions inside the system) then you needed to log out/in in order to activate the group change. If you tried to start FLEx several times in a row immediately after installing the program, this could be why it didn't start for you (I don't remember what the specific behavior is under these conditions).

So now, a few days later, if you start the program again it might work. But to be certain go to "Users and Groups". Click on your user and check the "Groups" list for "fieldworks". If it is not there, click on the list of active groups and tick "fieldworks" to add your user to that group. Then log out/in and see if FLEx opens from the menu for you.

I don't know whether this description fits yours or not, but it's worth checking out. I hope it helps!
Blessings,
Kim

You know, I was surprised to see this come up once, when I purged on uninstall, I think, but for the most part I've NOT seen a EULA on install. I'll check the log out/in again when my computer slows down dowing other things, but I've been in that group for a long time, so I wouldn't expect that to be the issue. But we'll see. -Kent

Did you check "Users and Groups" to be sure your username is in the
fieldworks group? (Just making sure in case you missed that part of my
email.)

I'd checked through 'groups' in the command line, but I've now checked there, too. I'm in the fieldworks group. -Kent
