Hi,

My students and me wonder if there is a dedicated field for a word list number. We're using a standard word list in elicitation, and comparing across languages is easier if we can match the numbers from that list. The way I understand it, we can just use any field if there isn't a dedicated one, and just tell whatever script we use on the xml export to look for the number in that field.

Hi Eline,
I always created a custom field for such numbers.

A general rule is to reserve dedicated fields for what they were designed for. Someone may come along later and want to use your word list as a starting point for a standard dictionary with standard information. These standard fields often require special treatment, and so it makes sense to reserve standard fields for standard data, and add custom fields for non-standard data.
