Exporting data from Flex

Hello

I am attempting to export my dictionary from FLEX as an xml file for developers to host it as an online dictionary. However, the developers are unhappy with the exported data. They have inquired whether there is any chance that the data could be exported in JSON format. I need assistance with the proper export of the data as an xml file or a JSON file.

There are online tools for conversion of XML to JSON. Would that meet your need?

@Otlogetswe, you just want the dictionary, correct? Not phonology,
grammar etc., which afaict are not included in the export formats.
(I've been working with the .fwdata format, which is a bit...different.)

There is also the option to export the configured dictionary as XHTML.

Are they wanting something that they can put into a database, or is this just for display?

There are many export options for various different parts of the FLEx database, either for the data itself, or for the formatted dictionary entries.  Which one to use depends a lot on the goal of the export.

The .fwdata file has a very different format from the LIFT file that
FLEx can export using File | Export. The .fwdata file is much flatter
than a LIFT file would be, or than most other XML files would be, and I
would guess that it has around three times as many XML elements (nodes).
It's possible one of these sites would do better with the LIFT format,
although it's also possible they're just designed for smaller XML files.

There are also non-online XML-to-JSON converters, which should be
straightforward to use. Just be careful to download it from a reputable
site.
