This is a poster presented by Matthew Harley at the SIL Linguistics, Orthography, and Literacy Gathering in Chiang Mai in February. Since FLEx is a significant part of the study, I thought I’d share it here in case anyone’s interested.

The main update since February is that we are now using Fieldworks Lite (the successor to Language Forge). We have also experimented with trying to combine the best of both traditional and participatory approaches e.g. noting down IPA transcriptions during the audio recordings (best done in the pre-workshop data collection stage). Although the graphic is somewhat provocative we do still use paper e.g. having a grid of words that illustrate the main tone patterns that people can point to.
