(Replying to just to the two of you--at least I think that's what I'm
doing--so as not to fill up the list with my speculation :))
A couple thoughts:
1) In Windows (not FLEx) Settings, under Personalization > Fonts, above
the list of "Available fonts" there's a box labeled "Related settings."
If you click on that, there's a sub-box called "Adjust ClearType text".
And clicking on that brings up a dialog box "ClearType Text Tuner". The
first choice is "Turn on ClearType", which should probably be checked
(if it isn't, click on it to make the box blue). Then click "Next".
Then it will go through several more displays, asking you which of
several text samples looks better, and finally it will "tune" your monitor.
Of course that affect all apps, so if it is just FLEx that looks bad, it
may not help, unless maybe those other apps are doing something
different with the fonts.
2) The other thing I would check would be what font FLEx is using for
the vernacular and analysis writing systems; it could be it's set to a
not-so-clear font. I know in the past with other applications I've
tried to use a font that supports both Roman and non-Roman scripts, and
the Roman characters in those fonts often aren't very good. If that's
what's happening in your case, I'd defer to Ann's advice on how to
change those.
3) Finally, FLEx uses different colors for text in various places--like
on my computer, it's using green for the parts of speech of lexical
entries on the side where it displays multiple lexical entries (the
green is a bit fuzzy), but black on a pale gray background on the
right-hand side where it's showing the POS for a single entry.
(Possibly the gray is intended to indicate there's a drop-down so I can
change the part of speech.) And the labels on the right-hand side are
in a pale gray font with thin strokes, I guess to indicate that they're
not editable. But they do look a bit fuzzy on my screen. I don't think
there's a way to change those font choices, but I again defer to Ann.
