Greetings to you all.

We’re preparing a dictionary review with a small linguistic committee and would like to use FieldWorks Lite (Beta) for reviewers on smartphones (mainly Android).

Our review scenario

  • Reviewers are motivated teachers with smartphones; orthography mastery varies.
  • We want to review a cleaned subset of ~2000 entries (not the whole lexicon).
  • We’d like two roles:
    1. Comment-only / suggestion mode (no direct edits), and
    2. Limited edit (only specific fields, e.g., headword spelling, glosses, examples), with strong safeguards.

What we’re trying to achieve

  • Keep the workflow simple for non-technical reviewers.
  • Prevent accidental structural changes.
  • Keep feedback traceable (who suggested/changed what).
  • Have a practical review / approval step before changes become “final”.

Questions

  1. In real projects, how are people using FieldWorks Lite for review—especially when you need comment-only reviewers?
  2. What’s a good workflow for reviewing a fixed subset (~2000 entries)?
    • How do you select and freeze the set for review?
    • How do you keep reviewers focused on that set?
  3. For “limited edit” reviewers: which fields are safest to allow in Fieldworks Lite, and which should be reserved for full FieldWorks (FLEx)
  4. Best practices for quality control and rollback:
    • backups / Send-Receive approach,
    • how you use history to audit changes,
    • and how you handle accidental edits given Lite’s auto-save behavior.

Any recommendations, or proven workflows would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Bart.

Thanks Bart - it's good to get additional feedback / insight from this group, and this question/topic was also posted over at https://community.software.sil.org/t/review-workflow-with-fieldworks-lite-beta-comment-only-vs-limited-edit-on-a-2000-entry-subset/11146 and comments are happening over there as well.  I think it's fine to comment in either place - I just want to connect the two so that people are aware.
