I have been putting texts in my FLEx project, without immediately interlinearizing them, and I just noticed that for the last text that I keyboarded, the parser is not working. The whole text is in the Baseline tab, but when you look at the Analyze tab, there is just the Word line, with no suggested parses. And when I look at each word, the lexicon is not accessed. Some setting must have gotten accidently changed, but I don’t know what it is. This problem did not occur with the other texts that I keyboarded recently. I have not interlinearized them yet, either, but the parser makes suggestions for the words in those texts. I am using version 7.06, the latest stable version. Any suggestions?

Alan,

Have you tried the Parser Words in Text command from the Parser menu?  If that doesn’t solve your problem, then read on.

A significant “fix” for problems like these was included in FW 7.2, so that the Parse Words in Text command on the Parser menu would cause parser-produced analyses to show up on the Analyze tab.  I have been very happy using 7.2, even though it’s still officially in Beta state, and would recommend that you:

1. Create a backup of your project

2. Upgrade to FW 7.2

3. Open your project and see if you see anything different

4. If you don’t like 7.2 better than the version you are currently using, uninstall it and reinstall the stable version, restoring your project from the backup.

(NOTE: If you don’t create the backup, opening your project in 7.2 will change it so that it can no longer be opened in the older version if you decide to revert.)

Blessings,

Kevin

Hi Alan,
In the Baseline tab, select the text, and check that the writing
system of the text is correct. Has it accidentally ended up in English
or something like that? This does occasionally happen by accident.
There is a drop-down box control on the toolbar where you can see the
writing system and then change it if you need to to something else.

To add to what Susanna has said: Sometimes if you cut and paste from
another program the wrong language can become associated with it. If you
did cut and paste from some other application did you use a Unicode keyboard
originally.

Thank you, Jeff, also Susanna and Kevin. Apparently the problem did have to
do with cutting and pasting, because I had copied part of the text from
another record within the same FLEx project. I found that when I copied the
text out into a word processing program, changed the font, and then copied
it back into a new record in the FLEx project, the problem disappeared. I
now see that for some reason, the text indeed was associated with a
different language in the record that I first copied the text from. Anyway,
after copying the text into a new record, I just deleted the original
record, and everything is fine.

Thanks, Alan
