Broken writing system for imported texts

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble with importing interlinear texts from SayMore. I
thought I had the writing systems defined correctly, but the free
translations are populated as boxes rather than using the correct
writing system (Arabic-based script).

I did this last summer on a different computer, and it worked just fine.
However, the free translations from what I did over the summer have also
turned into boxes on this computer.

I tried deleting the broken free translations and re-typing them in, but
that also produces boxes.

How do I go about fixing this? I have quite a few texts in SayMore that
I need to get into FLEx for interlinearizing, so I really need this to
work correctly.

Thanks!
Erin

The boxes sounds almost certainly like a font problem, and not necessarily a writing system (or script) problem. Have you checked which font is being assigned to that field, and made sure it includes Arabic characters?

It's quite possible that you never installed the font on this new computer, and when it can't find whatever font it's hoping for, it's defaulting to a font which doesn't include your characters.

Sorry for the delayed response. Malachi, I think you were right about it being a font problem. I was making to the styles just to get the font bigger and in a different color, and I must also have changed the font (I don't actually remember doing it). Then all of a sudden it started displaying properly again. I'm not sure why it didn't work to begin with--maybe I had never actually used the Arabic-script free translation option before. Anyway, it works now, so thanks for your help!
