As the title suggests, I'm trying to work out how to add an audio file for a sentence example. I've added the headword under pronunciation, but I can't see a field under the sense. Is there a way to do this?

I've added an audio writing system to see if I can insert the audio file that way, but it seems that I can only record directly into FLEx, rather than add a pre-recorded file. Is there something I'm missing?

If I understand your inquiry correctly, you are wanting to add a pre-recorded audio file to an example sentence on the sense level, is that correct?

Prerecorded audio files can be added to the headword(s) via the Insert tab (sound or movie).

One way I found you can do this is by adding the example sentences to the Text & Words tab. From there, highlight the example sentence, click on Insert and select "Link to File". That will create a hyperlink to the audio you then select.

You can then select and copy the example sentence (with the embedded hyperlink) and then paste it into the desired place in your Lexicon. This will create an example sentence with a hyperlink to the audio.

Have you tried holding down SHIFT before clicking the "Record" button with an audio writing system? That should allow you to link to an existing audio file. But check the help under "Audio files overview" first -- there is an important note there.

I would make sure these are mp3 files since wav files are much larger and if you start having a lot of audio wav files, that might cause problems in S/R. It did for us awhile back because of the size of the data being sent.

Bruce is right that an audio writing system is the recommended way to add this, and holding down Shift is the way to attach a file rather than record directly.  With an audio writing system, you can add a recording to any vernacular field.

In the Texts & Words area, things are a bit different, but there are still some ways to work with audio there as well.
