Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I am working on two related dialects and a colleague has accidentally been editing the FLEx database for the wrong dialect. I will be changing editing permissions once it's all sorted to prevent it happening again, unfortunately I was working on a totally different project while it was all happening so I didn't catch it earlier. I've sorted out the lexicon because all that had happened there was uploading the wrong audio files, but he has also done quite a bit of work in Texts and Words.

I can easily copy the baseline texts over to the correct database and then delete them from the wrong one, but is there any way of maintaining his work in the analyse tab? Just copy and pasting the baseline will lose his analysis work.

Thanks for any help!
Lizzie

Ok, what I sorted out on my computer hasn't solved the problem on my colleague's computer.

Sending this also to flex_errors because I think I need a call with a developer to untangle things.

Send and Receive should get the changes you made onto the colleagues.

You can export a flex text but it does lose the linterlinearization because those are linked to lexicon entries.

Hello Lizzy,

I think the work already done can be saved by backing the flex database up and keep this as a separate database that serves as reference (once restored under a new name), a read-only copy of the old work. (but still usefull as a reference)

Secondly, since it all happened inside one flex-database, it is possibly possible to do some advanced juggling with flextools. Depending on the amount that was analysed that may be worth it. But the investment to develop the flextools module may be significant. A flextools specialist may need to be consulted to determine that.

Thanks all,

I think it's almost back to where it needs to be. It wasn't as simple as just S/R and it was the audio files that were causing issues. My colleague and I have used the same file naming conventions and so I think files were clashing. There were no error messages but it just never got beyond one particular file, and there was lots of text about files on his version not being found in my version. I don't really know why it didn't just overwrite my version with his at that point, except if it was the file name confusion, but I'm grateful it didn't as that's how I knew something was wrong! I had to delete all the audio files, then S/R so they disappeared from LexBox and then re-add them - there weren't so many that it was a huge problem - and then repeat the S/R.

I had already created a backup of my correct version before messing with anything, so that will be used as a reference database as Bart suggested because some other things have changed and tomorrow the plan is to delete both projects from my colleague's computer and he will re-download from LexBox. Hopefully that will be the end of it! There wasn't a lot of text analysed so probably not worth going down the FLEx tools route, the reference database will speed up the work needing to be done again.

Can anybody tell me how to export the data in the toolbox using the dictionary format? Or how to transfer the data from the toolbox to the FLEx?

Assuming it is a toolbox database:
Open the FLEx Database that you are importing it into.
Go to the lexicon.
File>Import>Standard Format Lexicon
Follow the instructions provided. Ask here if you have questions. Use the help menu.
