I am currently transcribing some texts into FLEx for glossing and I encountered a strange glitch where some words are not being treated as words. I think its treating them as punctuation because i am not able to select them in any tab.

Copying the baseline into a new text does not solve the issue, nor does copying into a .txt and back. I thought it might be a weird encoding issue were the "-" characters are visually identical but actually a different character, but i copied one from later in the text where I don't have this issue and the problem persists.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing the issue or how to solve it?

One possibility is that the writing system that is assigned to the “words not being treated as words” is different the one that is assigned to the “words that are being treated as words”.

In the text shown below, I have a list of Phuien verb forms, together with their French meanings. The verb forms are marked as being in the Phuie writing system, while the meanings are marked as being in the French writing system.

On the analyze tab, words that are marked as “French” are not analyzable, while the ones marked “Phuie” are:

I think that there are other possible reasons for what you’re experiencing, but this is one possibility.

The probable reason for this is that the writing system for these words is not a vernacular language.  If it still won’t work, send a copy of your project to flex_...@sil.org and I’ll look at it.

I'm glad that it was a simple problem to solve--once you knew what the problem might be.

Best wishes,

Looks like it was an issue with the writing system being set to english for those words. No clue how that happened, but i've fixed it now.

Thanks for the advice!
