Under the Export feature, I clicked on this link:

More than half of the links on that page are broken. Does someone here maintain that page?

Hi B Kh

Here is the github link which superseded the code.google.com page:

https://github.com/sillsdev/lift-standard/tree/master

The information is old but still relevant.

Thanks Mr. Oatley for such a fast response!

Should I make a bug report so the link gets changed in future releases?

I'm curious if there is other official information out there. You may have seen my other post about trying to convert my FLEx data into a StarDict format dictionary.

That's OK I'll file a bug report. Thanks for thinking of it.

The only other documentation I know of is this:

https://downloads.languagetechnology.org/fieldworks/Documentation/Technical%20Notes%20on%20LIFT%20used%20in%20FLEx.pdf

Oh, thank you.

I wonder if that pdf shouldn't be added to the list in FLEx help here:

I noticed in the pdf introduction…

> It’s unlikely that SIL will pursue further development of LIFT.

Do you know if that is because it's a finished project or if there is something else replacing it?

My understanding is neither, much to my frustration. There doesn't seem to be enough interest in collaboration across different people building tools to finish or maintain a standard against which different people could develop their tools with confidence —as provided by an open, public standard like LIFT.
In this context, I continue to use and support LIFT internally and as a collaboration framework, though this won't enable smooth collaboration if others don't.

One could argue that "something else replacing it" with regard to FLEx is FLEx's own proprietary XML model, which manages much more than LIFT does. But given that this model is owned by SIL, it isn't something others can develop against (e.g. with confidence that it won't change without reason).

Grace,

Kent

Is this where we insert an xkcd comic? https://xkcd.com/927/

It makes sense that an org with limited resources wouldn't dedicate much time to improving a standard when they already have so many of their own solutions. And the more I use FLEx the more complex I realize the data is. I'm just happy we have what we do.
