Dialect A (prestige) has one word "achiaan̄" for "sand" and "rust."
Dialect B uses different words: "achiaan̄" for rust, but "ntitaak" for "sand."

How do I use dialect labels to handle this in Flex? Meanwhile, the "variant of sense" field is not responding to clicks; and clicking the small blue button only shows "Field Visibility" and "Help." There's no option to choose from a list, etc.

Currently using Flex 9.1.25.877

The “Dialect Labels” field exists at both the entry and sense level.  In the entry for  “achiaan̄”  you would want to use the sense level version of that field to indicate that the sense “sand” only applies in Dialect A.  Then in the entry for “ntitaak”  you would use the entry level version of that field to indicate that that entry only applies to Dialect B.

For the Variant of Sense field, a link can be made from the entry for the variant itself, but not from the entry that it is a variant of.  If you are in the entry for the variant, you can use the menu in the blue pane bar header (the triangle next to the “Entry” label at the top) and choose “This entry is a variant”.  Then in the dialog box for choosing what it is a variant of, there is a place where you can say that it is a variant of the whole entry, or of a specific sense of that entry.
