Fletcher Elementary Preschool Program Earns Prestigious 5-STAR Ranking
For the fourth consecutive year, the Fletcher Elementary School’s preschool program has earned the highest possible ranking – 5 stars – from Vermont’s Step Ahead Recognition System (STARS).
Administered by the Child Development Division of the Department for Children and Families, STARS recognizes high-quality childcare, preschool, and after-school programs that go above and beyond state requirements to serve children and families. The more STARS a program has, the more services and supports it offers to children, families, and other local childcare, preschool and after-school providers.
Five-STAR programs are recognized for exceptional work in five areas including compliance with state regulations; staff qualifications and training; interaction with and support of children, families, and communities; thorough program assessments and planning; and strong operating policies and business practices.
The Fletcher Elementary School’s preschool program serves both three- and four-year-olds. Taught for the past 15 years by veteran preschool teacher Nancy Hurt, the program aims to work with families to promote healthy academic and social learning through play. This begins with strong relationship building and exploration of new materials, experiences, and ideas.
