Jon,

Yesterday at around 12:45 P.M.  I was walking Riley up Mayotte Rd.  When I and a
rather large sow black bear with her cub surprised each other.   Fortunately, I was
far enough away from her  that I yelled out at her and "spooked" her to run back into
the woods with her cub.  We turned around and walked back down as I didn't want to
press my luck any further.

She was not scrawny or sickly looking.  She appeared to be a large and healthy girl!
I returned a couple hours later and left a note at the closest residence where I saw
her.  I checked for tracks but couldn't locate any at that time.

I'm sure it's probably one of those one in a million chance encounters and she is
probably long gone but I figured I'd let you know as you have better opportunities
and contacts to let our neighbors know that it is that time of the year when we
have wildlife moving about!

The resident on Mayotte Rd called me back and advised me she would be taking
down her bird feeders.

Your neighbor,

Mark
