Hi Everybody,

I'm thrilled to announce that I will be defending my dissertation on
Wednesday March 10th, and wanted to share this news with my oldest
friends.

If Mr. Kratka (sp?) could see me now: I think he failed me in social
studies one term, and here I am an official social scientist!

By the way, does anyone remember our other history/social studies
teachers? I seem to remember a tall woman with short hair who was very
nice....

So, I just wanted to let you all know that on 3/10 I will be
celebrating at a cozy and classy lounge in the West Village and would
love to see any of you who are around if you care to stop by.

The Dove, 228 Thompson Street, between Bleecker and West 3rd (http://
www.thedoveparlour.com/). They have great happy hour cocktails.

I will be there from 6PM on, but if you want to see me in anything
approximating a coherent state, you'll arrive on the early side :)

Cheers,
Diana

Diana, congratulations on your (almost there) achievement. I know the defense will go well - your mentor's job is to make it happen!
And you get to do all the sweating. Best of luck.

Congratulations from Seattle! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in the "better late than never" category. I finish residency in June, which makes the two of us NYC, 1966 Aquarian babies (am I right?), pretty much in weird, parallel universes. Take care Diana,

Congratulations Diana -- Bravo.  Our other social studies teacher was Mrs. Munitz (sp?) from New Zealand -- I recall that we gave her a pretty hard time but that she was really nice.  This was 6th grade.   Best wishes for Wednesday.

Thanks guys! I'm very excited.

Yes, Mark, I'm an Aquarius (not the worst cross to bear), and as for better late than never, you couldn't be more apt, as this time last year it was *really* looking like never.  Congratulations to you too!

I'll be there, D. More like 8pm, so I hope you're still sober!

Funny about Mr. Kratka. If I recall correctly, he actually shared amyl nitrate ("rush") with Fred and Stacy. The dude was weird. Also, he was fired, wasn't he?

Congratulations Diana!! I would definitely be there if I could! Have a drink for me. Make it a double!! I am in grad school myself and join you and Mark in the BLTN category :-)
There are days I think I am incapable of original thought and can't figure out how to write a lick, so BRAVO!!

What happy news, well done. Wish I could be there to celebrate with you - we'll just have to have another drink when I'm next in NYC.

I thought she taught us math. Maybe both?
Anyway all I can remember is she read us The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on Fridays.

What is social studies, anyway? I don't remember anything about it.

I thought Miss Munitz taught fourth grade English... Hmmm.

Social studies is history. I guess it was called History when we were in school. Not really sure.  Today English is called "language arts" in a lot of school districts, I think.

Was the Voyage of the Dawn Treader CS Lewis?

No one remembers the tall woman with the short hair? I wasn't thinking of Ms. Munitz.  Someone who appeared older and less lanky?

Maggie, yes, drinks when you next pop over the pond.

Omg people! Ms. Munitz was definitely the 4turquoise English teacher. She was from New Zealand and I remember her vividly. For some reason she liked me (I remember this because not many teachers did), despite my persistently atrocious behavior.

Hi Kids,
Mrs. Munitz did teach 4th grade English with me during her first year, I think.
I also taught Social Studies as it was called then.  We had 3 books about agriculture in India and then another about Business and we looked at Stocks and Trading fake companies. I think that some of you did really well.
Mrs. Bowditch was another Social Studies teacher who was tall. She is now a
Real Estate broker in Manhattan...
Diana, congratulations on your dissertation. All the more power to you...
Hope to see the Flemingos soon.
Best to you all,
Tina Brodsky Bellet (4 Red and 4 Yellow)

Diana and flamingos all,

DIana, I have to admit I spent a good part of Saturday morning thumbing through Fleming years books coming up empty to answer your question about Ms. Munitz but it sounds like Tina Bellet certainly has a super memory! Good news, now you can relax and focus in on your dissertation. Congratulations!!

I still work at The Village Community School (20 years) as an 8th grade advisor and Athletic Director. I am in your neighborhood and if I can I hope to stop on Wednesday. It would be a hoot to see some of you again.

Onward then Diana,

Mrs, Johnson  (Mary)
