We have realised that there are a few tweaks that are needed in order
to ensure fairness and a true reflection of on the water performance.
I have formulated two proposals which I hope everyone can agree to.
1/. Scoring for a series to be: '50% of the total number of heats in a
series AFTER normal discards from each race day to count for the
series. '
(This is to mitigate the effects of Did Not Start/Finish or other
'disasters' we all have from time to time that could have a
disproportionate effect on an individual's final tally for a series).
2/. That in order to keep a balance over the course of the series we
should aim to run APPROXIMATELY the same number of heats within each
sailing day.
(This would be so that no single day's sailing results would have a
disproportionate influence over the series as a whole. Based on what
we have sailed during previous series 10 heats per session would seem
to be a realisic target, but could clearly not be binding in view of
differing conditions from day to day. Merely we would aim to set
courses on a day that would allow us to sail approximately that number
of heats).
We don't want or need to get bogged down with a complicated set of
rules - we are here for some competitive fun so the above keeps things
simple and manageable. The discards will be as per our current
arrangements for a sailing day, 1 for 4 heats, 2 for 8 etc.
Please post any questions, (dis)agreement, etc. I'd like to hear from
all concerned.
Shaun.
yes I think Its a good Idea, makes scoring, more accurate.
