Some time ago I recall one or more of you discussing the dimensions of the trailer bunks for the Nickels trailers. Do any of you have them? I need to replace my bunks.

Thanks,

Lindsay

Trailer Bunks for Nickels trailer.  Note - hard to be exact.  After drawing out points I would draw a smooth(er) curve before cutting

Caps on top of bunks are 4" wide I have used 9mm and I have used 12mm marine ply.  Nickels used regular ply, padded & covered w' carpet

slight bevel to front bunk.  But very little, approx 5 degrees.  Could cut w' bandsaw or just bevel it with a belt sander after cutting shape.

The rear bunk has slightly less bevel, 3 to 4 degrees, but padding is going to allow some error on this, so really you don't need to be too concerned with the difference.  Just a little bevel.

center notch for keelson 7-1/2" wide angled in to 6 1/2" at bottom.

Measurements are height measured from bottom of board, where it rests on cross beam of trailer, from centerline outward.

Heights measured do NOT include the 4" wide cap that is to be padded & covered w' carpet.  For padding, Nickels used carpet padding.  I have used 1/2" thick closed cell foam.  For carpet, Nickels used scrap household carpet.  I used marine trailer carpet from West Marine.  Both will work fine.

Side edge facing bracket through which bunk is bolted to the trailer may need a small bevel so it can clear the weld of the bracket to the trailer frame.  On Front bunk this is the forward edge, on rear bunk the aft facing edge (again, this is on the Nickels built trailers)

Wait to drill the bolt holes until you mount on the trailer.  Some variation in Nickels trailers

Front Bunker:
Length 67-1/2"
thickness of lumber 1-1/2"

On front bunk match the length of the existing bolts (or re-use existing ones).  If too long it won't fit

9"                                          3-3/16"

30"                                         4-1/2"
33"                                         4-"

Rear Bunker:
Length 68"
thickness of lumber 1-1/2"

Very little bevel to rear bunk aprox 3 or 4 degrees. Could cut with a bandsaw or just bevel it with a belt sander.  A little less bevel to rear bunk, but difference not super critical, padding under the carpet allows things to be a little off.

center notch for keelson same as front bunk
