Hey V15ers & sailors

Chris Sutterly just bot a vintage Nacra 5.8 cat - making it TWO in the area.  These easily take 3, but can sail with 2 or 4.  We trailer store and working out the rig/unrig process but realistically still need an hour from storage to in-water. 

We've had some great sails in past 6 weeks - 5 times on my boat, and with Chris can ramp it up!  Need minimum 6mph and ideally 10-16mph for the best sailing.

Here's the question:  Do any of you want on a list for getting out on our two boats?  This winter will give just a few opportunities, but as I see it - could get the "list" vetted and established prior to 2020 sailing weather.

Pls no discussion on this email - just Yes/No "do you want on a list".

If you give me some warning for when you’d like to go out, I would likely join you guys with my F18.  I’m looking to get more sailing time on Evil Octopus but am reluctant to do it solo with inexperienced crew.

 

For those that still have V15s, it would be great if we could organize some days out on the water together, even if it’s just to do “raid” type sailing to various locations around Benicia with friends and family.  My poor V15 is still shoved all the way in the very back of the yard where I can’t get to it.  I’d like to sail it, but would need help digging it out (and probably making it seaworthy again at this point).

No.  I’m putting any of my free time for sailing into my Santana22 but I’d consider an occasional Sunday afternoon in the winter months to V15 sailing on the Straits. (That is if I can extract my boat which is in the very back of the yard)

I'm surprised that the V15s haven't been given the boot from the yard yet.  It seems to make sense for storing boats that are used regularly, but treating it as long term storage for an unmaintained boat seems to be asking for trouble.

I think Rich is the only one that uses his on a regular basis. So sad. The ones that are not being used really needs to be gone. Just saying, I heard that they are becoming a problem. I don’t want the ones that have been sitting there not being used ruin it for the boats that do get out.

I moved mine out several weeks ago.  Someone had stole the tires off the dolly awhile back and I had to replace them.  I would highly suggest that if your not using it regularly to move it out of there, otherwise don’t be shocked if people start pirating parts off your boat or trailer.  It’s really sad and a bummer.  Anyway my will be for sale in a bit, I’m just cleaning it up.  Safe sailing and Cheers

Hello Fleet 76!

Good to see emails to get out to sail from the fleet. Sadonna and I moved up to Washington State so if anyone is ever up, shoot me an email. I hope to join some sort of  sailing club up there at some point. I spotted a VG15 fleet on Lake Washington, must have been at least a dozen boats.

More cats!   I've acquired two Sea Sprays, and Bob Nelson got one last year....so there may be some giant killers on the Strait  My boatyard is full.    I hope to blend both boats into one good one...and perhaps play with foils on the leftover carcass. A Sea Spray was my first sailboat, back in the mid 60's, before Hobies existed.  They only weigh 150lbs, and in light/medium air, will really annoy anything but a Tornado.  See you on the water.  Goose

Naw, this would be beach cat style, just an excuse to go have some fun with some organization and some support if needed.  Really relaxed “racing”; beer can style on a weeknight with good fun at the BYC afterwards.

And a wonderful footnote. I think I'm getting the return to dock dialed in!  Key today was sailing with jib backwinded.  We made five methodical approaches with different styles and techniques and this seems to be the most helpful. It was 100% success today.  Corny held at the end of the East dock in total control with the rig balanced and then adjusted position on the dock allowing us to totally luff then drop the main.

Evil Octopus would be thrilled to race in a multihull fleet if there were at least three (3) regular attendees. Below that number, I would strongly prefer to race with "A" fleet. It's already not fun owing the second fastest boat in the entire fleet almost 3 minutes/mile; racing in a division by myself is not racing.
