Joel --
It's official: the Treasure
Island Development Authority (TIDA) just announced that the TIDA board
will vote this Wednesday, Oct. 11, on the future of Clipper
Cove.
This is an important moment. Please come to the hearing
if you can: SF City Hall, room 400, (City Hall is on the west side of
Civic Center plaza). The meeting starts at 1:30 and the hearing on
this item will probably start at 2:00 PM. Wednesday Oct
11.
And, if you haven't already, please email San
Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim asking her to preserve public
access to one of the best parts of the San Francisco Bay and to oppose
the proposed private luxury marina that would take 1/3rd of Clipper
Cove.
You can reach Supervisor Kim at Jane...@sfgov.org You
can reach her aide Barbara Lopez at barbar...@sfgov.org
You can also let the TIDA board know how you feel by copying TIDA
staff director Bob Beck at bob....@sfgov.org
Thank you for all your support. This is one of the fights where
public input can make a BIG difference.
We will get three
chances to stop this takeover. Besides TIDA, the San Francisco Board
of Supervisors and the Bay Conservation and Development Commission
(BCDC) also have to approve this project. We actually have a better
chance with the SF Board of Supervisors. But this TIDA vote is up
first, so it's important to show the Supervisors that the community
cares by speaking up now.
Please know that the Sierra Club,
S.F. Bay Keeper, the U.S. Sailing Association, the San Francisco
teachers union (UESF) and many San Francisco leaders are supporting
us. For a full list go here:

As
the Sierra club recently noted: "We would never give up 1/3rd of
Golden Gate Park to a private luxury resort, and we shouldn't do that
with Clipper Cove - the largest and most valuable protected open water
cove in San Francisco."
