Dear Nerisa, all

A warm welcome to this group. I hear that people and organizations in Kenya are very enthusiastic about Farmer-led documentation. In August 2007, Pelum Kenya organized an FLD workshop. There were some nice examples from farmers using FLD, for example through visitors books and through photography. But the proceedings of that workshop also showed that participants felt it still is a challenge to find good example cases of FLD. Maybe (since that workshop) there are more good examples now? Perhaps people from Kenya could share a bit about what's happening or being planned at this moment? I am not sure who is member of this list, so sending this CC to a few people directly as well. Others, please feel free to respond too.

In the meantime, please take another look at Max Garcia's message a while ago on this list. Max explained that there seems to be a difference between how NGO people look at FLD (to document and learn) and how farmers look at it (FLD should lead to improved practice, not just documentation for the sake of learning or documenting). If you have any comments on this (do you agree, or not? How do you deal with this in your projects?) please send your message to this forum.

Best wishes,
Dorine

Hi every one
This is Michael from South Africa ,firstly let me apologize for not participating as much as I would like to be this due to the field work. I want to throw in my personal obsavation from our Pilot in Potshini using pictures and albums .Women farmers were very happy to participate and we have seen albums being carried to different forums, seed shops, extension offices ect, WHY?  They are able to carry their produce to the potential market before they reach agreement of selling and buying, able to take any infection, either on crops or livestock to seek help, they are also able to buy same seeds as last season even though they had forgotten the specifications and pictures will give who ever who is assisting the clue on what is needed .
Challenges are -still cameras needs a lot of effort and support to the farmers and take long to fill up while farmers want to use what they have documented.
Farmers themselves need to be convinced if anything works before they use it ,So is documentation  we can narrate all these successful stories about how this thing can benefit them but if they not convinced you will be left with the selected few especial those who have discovered that its benefitting to be one of the few left on something(personal experience and opinion) Take this as sharing of experience as service providers not as I have labeled farmers.
